Cultivation of Krishna ConsciousnessDear Prabhujis and Mathajis,Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Guru Maharaj and Srila Prabhupada. There were two farmers who were engaged in cultivation of paddy. The first one was very agile and sincere and started working from the first month, strictly following the procedures laid down for cultivation. The other one was very lazy and indolent and started working for cultivation from 5th month onwards. The result was obvious with the first one reaping a good harvest better than the second one. The cultivation is a process and it takes time to mature and fructify a good harvest. Same holds true for Krishna bhakti also. Our foundation of Krishna consciousness should be strong and sturdy so that it withstand the hurricane nature of material world and of course our unconquerable mind (adhabra Virya). Srimad Bhagavatam gives a nice formula for this

cultivation by simply adopting the techniques given in this verse in our day to day life. In Srimad Bhagavatam 4.29.39-40 Narada Muni says to King Prachinabarhi, yatra bhaagavataa raajan / saadhavo vishadaashayaaha bhagavad-gunaanukat hana / shravana-vyagra- cetasah tasmin mahan-mukharitaa madhubhic-caritra-piyusha-shesha- saritah paritah sravanti taa ye pibanty avitrisho nrpa gaadha-karnais taan na sprshanty ashana-trid- bhaya-shoka- mohaah"My dear King, in the place where pure devotees live, following the rules and regulations and thus purely conscious and engaged with great eagerness in hearing and chanting the glories of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in that place if one gets a chance to hear their constant flow of nectar, which is exactly like the waves of a river, one will forget the necessities of life, namely hunger and thirst and become immune to all kinds of fear, lamentation and illusion."Prabhupada in

his wonderful purport gives some key practical tips for cultivating Krishna consciousness which we need to apply in our lives to be really successful. The onus is on us to apply in our lives and derive the benefit. 1. Eagerness to hear from the mouth of Pure devotees ( Shravana vyagra Cetasah). 2. Constant hearing of Krishna katha from the mouth of Pure devotees. 3. Allow the nectar to pass through the ears into your heart. 4. Develop the attitude of not getting disturbed by bodily necessities. 5. Develop the faith in the Lord's transcendental subject matter. If we do this 5 things effectively definitely the cultivation of Krishna consciousness is possible. Of these 5 points, if we allow the nectar of Krishna katha to pass through the ears and touch the heart, then that will definitely change our consciousness and will automatically manifest the remaining four things listed above. Srimad Bhagavatam elsewhere warns us that

unless we hear attentively, the taste for devotional service will not manifest. We can see ourselves that 90% of the time our mind is working on various material routines nicely manifesting like a trailer cinema, the moment we start hearing Srimad Bhagavatam or Srimad Bhagavad Gita Class wherein we are forced to sit for some time. We are very very generous in allowing our mind a free hand to allow all the garabage of our material occupations into us very nicely. This leads us to be impatient in hearing. Srimad Bhagvatam says that it is the extreme mercy to be engaged in Devotional service especially hearing Krishna katha. The time factor by absorbing ourselves in material conception is very ruthless and it imperceptibly overtakes every living entity even though we do not want it.The only practical way to develop the habit of allowing Krishna katha nectar from pure devotees to pass through is by the process of following few guidelines. a· Taking

notes in the class very sincerely and take them home and contemplate on them for application.b· Try to recollect those nectar and preach to others, this will solidify our attentive hearing. c· Record the lectures and rehear the lectures again and again. Mere recording alone is not useful.d· Regular touch with the scriptures on a daily basis.

.. -- ChantHare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare II Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare II --is the sublime method for reviving our Krsna consciousness. As living spiritual souls we are all originally Krsna conscious entities, but due to our asociation with matter since time immemorial, our consciousness is now poluted by material atmosphere. In this polluted concept of life, we are all trying to exploit the resources of material nature, but actually we are becoming more and more entangled in our complexities. This illusion is called Maya, or hard struggle for existence over the stringent laws of material nature.

This illusory struggle against the material nature can at once be stopped by revival of our Krsna consciousness. And Be Happy
