Glories Of Tulasi Devi

â€Sri Vishnu, the Lord of the Three Worlds, takes up abode in the village or the house where Tulasi is grown. In such a house no one suffers calamities like poverty, illness or separations from dear ones." Padmapurana, Uttarakhanda, 6-24-31-32

The following comes from the Padma Purana.

1. Tulasi is the essence of all devotional activities. The leaves, flowers, roots, bark, branches, trunk, and shade of Tulasi-devi are all spiritual.

2. One who with devotion applies the paste of Tulasi wood to the Deity of Krishna will always live close to Krishna.

3. One who puts mud from the base of the Tulasi tree on his body and worships the Deity of Lord Krishna gets the results of one hundred days worship each day.

4. One who offers a Tulasi manjari (flower) to Lord Krishna gets the benefit of offering all other varieties of flowers, and he goes to the abode of Krishna.

5. The fragrance of Tulasi-devi purifies all who smell it. Without Tulasi leaves, Lord Krishna does not like to accept abhishekam, flowers, food, or sandalwood paste.

6. One who worships Lord Krishna daily with Tulasi leaves attains the results of all kinds of austerity, charity, and sacrifice. In fact, he has no other duties to perform, and he has realized the essence of the scriptures

7. One who puts into his mouth or on his head Tulasi leaves that have been offered to Lord Krishna attains Lord Krishna's abode.

8. One who remembers the glories of Tulasi or tells others about them will never take birth again.

Plucking Tulasi

1.One should be bathed and clean before touching or plucking Tulasi. Tulasi should not be plucked on Dwadashi. This is because She has observed a fast on Ekadashi (no water or naivedyam is offered) and will be weak and frail on Dwadashi. One should not cause her further pain by plucking her leaves on Dwadashi.

2.On Dashami evening, especially in summers, one should copiously water Tulasi Devi so that she can remain on fast on Ekadashi.

3.Pick only the leaves that grow on either side of the manjaris (flowers) or those larger leaves from the base of which tiny new sprouts are emerging; or leaves that are ready to drop (they will turn a pale color) not the new, green ones. Pick the manjaris as soon as they blossom. Avoid letting them go to seed, which takes much energy from the plant that can be used to make more leaves and flowers for Krishna's service.

4.Pick the leaves one at a time with your fingertips. Don't shake or stroke the branch and damage healthy leaves. Pick with care and attention. 5.Never cut or prune Tulasi-devi. This is a great offense. Remove dead branches if absolutely necessary. If branches obstruct a passageway, tie them back, but avoid cutting them.

6.If when picking Tulasi leaves one breaks the branches, Visnu feels pain in His heart. One should clap the hands three times before picking Tulasi and pick in such a way that the branches do not shake.7.Pick Tulasi leaves and flowers in the morning, never at night (from sunset to sunrise). If possible, one should light a lamp near Tulasi devi in the evenings. This is especially important in the month of Kartik

8.Never use chemical sprays on Tulasi. Collect leaves once in the morning for worshiping Krishna and for putting on the plates of food to be offered to Him. Put at least one leaf on each preparation. Never pick Tulasi leaves for any other purpose than to offer to the Lord.Lord Krishna likes garlands of Tulasi leaves. Tulasi leaves mixed with sandalwood pulp and placed on the lotus feet of the Lord is the topmost worship.

Do not place Tulasi leaves on the feet of anyone other than Lord Vishnu in His various forms.

Srimati Radharani can be given a Tulasi leaf in Her hand for offering to Lord Krishna.

Krishna accepts even dry Tulasi leaves. Tulasi wood (taken after a plant has fully dried naturally) can be used to carve worship paraphernalia, such as beads.

T

ulasi-devi is very, very dear to the Lord. Therefore, most important is to serve her with love and devotion.

The Worship of Srimati Tulasi-deviFor devotees aspiring to enter the eternal realm of Goloka Vrindavan, service to Vrinda-devi is essential. Tulasi puja should form a daily part of our morning puja.

This puja can be very simple in one’s home. After bathing in the morning, simply pour a little clean cool water in the Tulasi plant and light a small lamp. Those who have more time, should offer flowers if available and apply some kumkum to Vrinda devi on the stem and leaves. And finally a little naivedyam, such as raisins, rock-sugar or batasha can be offered. After this one should do parikrama of Tulasi Devi.

Every morning we should pray to Vrinda-devi:

"ye tomara sarana loy tara vancha purna hoykrpa kori koro tare vrndavana-vasi"

"Whoever takes shelter of you, all his desires are fulfilled and by your mercy he becomes a resident of Vrindavan."

When picking Tulasi leaves, the following mantra can be chanted: tulasy amrta janmasi sada tvam kesava-priya kesavartham cinomi tvam varada bhava sobhane "O Tulasi, born of nectar, eternally adored of Lord Kesava. Now, in order to worship Lord Kesava, I am collecting your leaves and manjaris. Please bestow your benediction on me."

I am sorry to say that I have'nt heard this.So I cant give the explanation.Hope somebody from our group will clear our doubt.

But once when Lord Narayana told Narada about the glories of Tulasi Devi , bhagavan pointed that ,

“The sanctifying Tulasi tree will grow in Goloka, on the coast of the Viraja River, on the rasa-dance site, in the forests of Vrndavana, Bhandira, Champaka, Chandana, and in the groves of Madhavi, Ketaki, Kunda, Mallika and Malati. You will live in sacred places and bestow the highest religious merit. All the holy spots will converge and reside at the root of the Tulasi tree, and thus spiritual merits will accrue to all. O fair one, all the demigods and I will wait there to gather the falling Tulasi leaves.

“Whoever will be moistened or anointed with the water that has been sanctified by Tulasi leaves, will reap the benefits of having bathed in all the sacred rivers and performed all kinds of sacrifices.

“Lord Hari will not be as pleased with the gift of a thousand jars of honey as with one Tulasi leaf.

“Offering one such leaf as a gift will bring the same reward obtained by offering millions of cows.

“If one offers Tulasi leaves during the month of Kartika, he gets the same rewards as those just mentioned.

“If, at the time of death, one drinks or gets the Tulasi-leaf water, one will be freed of all his sins and proceed to Vaikuntha.

“Whoever drinks the Tulasi-leaf water daily will be redeemed in his lifetime and receive the benefit of a dip in the Ganges.

“Whoever plucks a Tulasi leaf, keeps it on his person, and then leaves his body in a holy place, will go to Visnuloka.

“Anyone who worships Me with this leaf daily will reap the blessings of a hundred thousand horse sacrifices.

“Anyone who leaves his body holding a Tulasi leaf in his hands will be saved from all sins.

“Anyone who wears a necklace composed of Tulasi wood, will surely, at every step, get the reward of a horse sacrifice.

“Whoever breaks his promise while holding the Tulasi leaf will go to the Kalasutra hell for as long as the sun and moon last.

“Anyone who gives false evidence in the presence of the Tulasi leaf, will go to the Kumbhipaka hell for as long as the lifespans of fourteen Indras.

“Whoever at the time of death drinks or gets a little Tulasi-leaf water will certainly proceed to Vaikuntha, leaving in a jeweled airplane.

“Lord Hari will decapitate that person who, on the day of the new moon or the full moon, or on the twelfth or last day of the lunar month, or after being anointed with oil just before taking a bath, or at noon, night, daybreak or sundown, or in a state of impurity or in one’s night dress–will cull or pluck the Tulasi leaf.

“O chaste one, even if such a leaf is kept for three nights and becomes dry, it can still be employed in connection with funeral ceremonies, vows, gifts, consecration of temples and the worship of demigods.

“If Tulasi leaves that were offered to Lord Visnu have fallen on the ground or on water are then properly washed, they may still be used for other sacred purposes.

“You will always be the presiding deity of the Tulasi plant here on Earth, and at the same time you will always sport with Sri Krsna in solitude in Goloka. You will also be the presiding deity of the Gandaki River, and thereby shower India with religious merit. You will further be the wife of the ocean of salt, which is My partial expansion. O chaste goddess, you will always remain personally by My side and enjoy My company, as Laksmi does.

“You will always be the presiding deity of the

Tulasi plant here on Earth, and at the same time you

will always sport with Sri Krsna in solitude in

Goloka. You will also be the presiding deity of the

Gandaki River, and thereby shower India with religious

merit. You will further be the wife of the ocean of

salt, which is My partial expansion. O chaste goddess,

you will always remain personally by My side and enjoy

My company, as Laksmi does.

Glories Of Tulasi Devi

â€Sri Vishnu, the Lord of the Three Worlds, takes up

abode in the village or the house where Tulasi is

grown. In such a house no one suffers calamities like

poverty, illness or separations from dear ones. "

Padmapurana, Uttarakhanda, 6-24-31-32

The following comes from the Padma Purana.

1. Tulasi is the essence of all devotional activities.

The leaves, flowers, roots, bark, branches, trunk, and

shade of Tulasi-devi are all spiritual.

2. One who with devotion applies the paste of Tulasi

wood to the Deity of Krishna will always live close to

Krishna.

3. One who puts mud from the base of the Tulasi tree

on his body and worships the Deity of Lord Krishna

gets the results of one hundred days worship each day.

4. One who offers a Tulasi manjari (flower) to Lord

Krishna gets the benefit of offering all other

varieties of flowers, and he goes to the abode of

Krishna.

5. The fragrance of Tulasi-devi purifies all who smell

it. Without Tulasi leaves, Lord Krishna does not like

to accept abhishekam, flowers, food, or sandalwood

paste.

6. One who worships Lord Krishna daily with Tulasi

leaves attains the results of all kinds of austerity,

charity, and sacrifice. In fact, he has no other

duties to perform, and he has realized the essence of

the scriptures

7. One who puts into his mouth or on his head Tulasi

leaves that have been offered to Lord Krishna attains

Lord Krishna's abode.

8. One who remembers the glories of Tulasi or tells

others about them will never take birth again.

Plucking Tulasi

1.One should be bathed and clean before touching or

plucking Tulasi. Tulasi should not be plucked on

Dwadashi. This is because She has observed a fast on

Ekadashi (no water or naivedyam is offered) and will

be weak and frail on Dwadashi. One should not cause

her further pain by plucking her leaves on Dwadashi.

2.On Dashami evening, especially in summers, one

should copiously water Tulasi Devi so that she can

remain on fast on Ekadashi.

3.Pick only the leaves that grow on either side of the

manjaris (flowers) or those larger leaves from the

base of which tiny new sprouts are emerging; or leaves

that are ready to drop (they will turn a pale color)

not the new, green ones. Pick the manjaris as soon as

they blossom. Avoid letting them go to seed, which

takes much energy from the plant that can be used to

make more leaves and flowers for Krishna's service.

4.Pick the leaves one at a time with your fingertips.

Don't shake or stroke the branch and damage healthy

leaves. Pick with care and attention.

5.Never cut or prune Tulasi-devi. This is a great

offense. Remove dead branches if absolutely necessary.

If branches obstruct a passageway, tie them back, but

avoid cutting them.

6.If when picking Tulasi leaves one breaks the

branches, Visnu feels pain in His heart. One should

clap the hands three times before picking Tulasi and

pick in such a way that the branches do not shake.

7.Pick Tulasi leaves and flowers in the morning, never

at night (from sunset to sunrise). If possible, one

should light a lamp near Tulasi devi in the evenings.

This is especially important in the month of Kartik

8.Never use chemical sprays on Tulasi. Collect leaves

once in the morning for worshiping Krishna and for

putting on the plates of food to be offered to Him.

Put at least one leaf on each preparation. Never pick

Tulasi leaves for any other purpose than to offer to

the Lord.

Lord Krishna likes garlands of Tulasi leaves. Tulasi

leaves mixed with sandalwood pulp and placed on the

lotus feet of the Lord is the topmost worship.

Do not place Tulasi leaves on the feet of anyone other

than Lord Vishnu in His various forms.

Srimati Radharani can be given a Tulasi leaf in Her

hand for offering to Lord Krishna.

Krishna accepts even dry Tulasi leaves. Tulasi wood

(taken after a plant has fully dried naturally) can be

used to carve worship paraphernalia, such as beads.

T

ulasi-devi is very, very dear to the Lord. Therefore,

most important is to serve her with love and devotion.

The Worship of Srimati Tulasi-devi

For devotees aspiring to enter the eternal realm of

Goloka Vrindavan, service to Vrinda-devi is essential.

Tulasi puja should form a daily part of our morning

puja.

This puja can be very simple in one’s home. After

bathing in the morning, simply pour a little clean

cool water in the Tulasi plant and light a small lamp.

Those who have more time, should offer flowers if

available and apply some kumkum to Vrinda devi on the

stem and leaves. And finally a little naivedyam, such

as raisins, rock-sugar or batasha can be offered.

After this one should do parikrama of Tulasi Devi.

Every morning we should pray to Vrinda-devi:

" ye tomara sarana loy tara vancha purna hoy

krpa kori koro tare vrndavana-vasi "

" Whoever takes shelter of you, all his desires are

fulfilled and by your

mercy he becomes a resident of Vrindavan. "

When picking Tulasi leaves, the following mantra can

be chanted:

tulasy amrta janmasi

sada tvam kesava-priya

kesavartham cinomi tvam

varada bhava sobhane

" O Tulasi, born of nectar, eternally adored of Lord

Kesava. Now, in order to worship Lord Kesava, I am

collecting your leaves and manjaris. Please bestow

your benediction on me. "

With Prayers
