Dear All,This is an addendum to yesterday's story about Ganapthy Bhagavan.

As per the story, Ganapahti Bhagavan was a bachelor and never had any responsibilities of a householder. Now let us see how He spent his time. Of course He was assigned the very responsible post of Gana Naayaka by his parents, meaning the Lord of Bhootha ganaas. He must be spending some time in directing, guiding and disciplining them. But He devotes a major portion of His available time to solve the problems of others. Every single Deva (including Brahma, Vishnu and His own parents Siva and Paarvathi, Soorya, Chandra and all 33 million devaas) and all Hindus who believe in God invokes Him and asks His help to remove any obstacles or Vighnam in their field of action. So he closely monitors all these projects and gives timely help to remove the obstacles if they are going forward in a dhaarmic path. Just imagine the number of times He is invoked by all of us in addition to the requests from Devaas. Every auspicious function of His believers starts with the prayer for Ganesha and He is there smiling and ever ready to help us. There is nobody a greater paropakaari (one who offers his time for doing service to others or help others) than Ganapathi Bhagavan.

At this time we cannot forget how much he helped Veda Vyaasa Maharshi. He was always there as the most efficient secretary for Vyaasa Bhagavan. Veda Vyaasa Maharshi will dictate and Gananapathi Bhagavan will write. He wrote all the 17 puraanaas by hand for Vedavyaasa bhagavan with out making any mistakes and his speed of writing was often too hard for Vyaasa Bhagavan to handle. Ganapathi Bhagavan likes to write with out break and Vyaasa Maharshi had to really pray hard to Saraswathi Devi to have a continuous flow of meaningful and beautiful words. After finishing Mahabharatham, when Vyaasa bhagavan was ready to write the eighteenth puraanam, Sreemad Bhagavatham, he was hesitant to ask Ganapthy Bhagavan for help. But to his surprise, he saw Ganapathy Bhagavan sitting ready with the divine pen in his hand and told Him that he was more than ready to start writing Bhagavatham. This work He did along with all other responsibilities. The only thing He wanted in return was sumptuous food of any kind in abundance ranging from sugarcane to laddu. If he sees his devotee is unable to provide any food, He is just happy and satisfied by accepting water! Such is His kindness.

His life is a real example of " paropakaararthamidam Shareeram " (This body is meant for helping others) and let Him bless us to get inspired by Him and His flawless character!.

SavitriP.S. According to some, Ganapathi bhagavan is not a bachelor and has two wives- Siddhi and Buddhi. In South India most of the devotees consider Him as a bachelor. In

North India Ganesha is

often shown married to the two daughters of Brahma (the Lord of

Creation), namely Buddhi and Siddhi. Buddhi signifies

wisdom and Siddhi achievement. Also I have read about the Yogic

representation of Buddhi and Siddhi as the female and male currents in

the human body. In another explanation, these two wives of Ganesha are

represented as grace and charm. When Ganesha is depicted in a

form known as " Shakti Ganpati " , he has four arms, two

of them holding weapons and the other two arms hold

his two wives Siddhi and Buddhi. The

interesting thing is, in southern parts of India Shri Murugan is

depicted with two wives Valli and Devayaaani. But in many other states,

Murugan is a bachelor and surprisingly in Soundarya Lahari

Snakaraacharyar also mentions Him as a bachelor! So I think Hinduism

leaves us with many options to prove that God appears the way you want

Him to appear or you can pray in any form as long as your prayer is

sincere. In Kerala, there is a story of an uneducated man praying

Brahmam as a male buffalo and attaining salvation! And this freedom of

thought is the beauty of Hinduism. I read somewhere that even the ten

avathaaraas tell us that He is there in all forms of living and

nonliving entities and he can be the one strictly following " ekapathni

vratham " ( vow of having only one wife) like Sree Raman or be the one

like Sree Krishna with 16,008 wives.
