Guest guest
Dear all, Air or Vaayu, Vaatha or Pavana as second Guru of Datthaathreya Vaayu in Sanskrit means " blower " , Vaatha means " blown " and Pavana means purifier. Also in the context of breathing vaayu is known as " Prana " . So air is often called the " God of life " . Brihadaranyaka Upanishad has established the importance of Vaayu when compared to other things that control our body. For example, we can live with out water for a few days, but with out air we cannot live for long. So Vaayu is probably the most important panchabhootha (five elements) as far as our life is concerned It is interesting to look at the behaviour of such a celebrity like Air. When air passes through a beautiful garden with fragrant flowers it carries with it all the fragrance and distributes the fragrance as far as it can. Same time, when it passes through a nasty, dirty and foul smelling area it carries that bad smell also and distributes it as far as it can. When passing over fire, it becomes hot air and when passing over cold water it becomes a cool breeze. But when it is not in association with those different smells and heat or cold it remains neither hot nor cold, neither sweet smelling nor foul smelling. So even though air does it's dharma of carrying what ever is in contact with it, it does not get involved or attached to that particular quality. Thus it plays it's role the best way, but does not really get involved in it. In the same way we should play our role as son, daughter, wife, husband, parents, grandparents etc, but should not get attached too much. Air advises us to take everything as it comes and leave them as they move or gracefully we have to move away from them. Datthathreya says that even though it is a hard principle to practice this lesson significantly contributes to his sereneness and happiness. He took the life as it came and faced all the opposites or dwandaas (like sukham-duhkham, heat-cold, love-hate etc) with equanimity.
