Guest guest
Dear all, Elephant is another Guru of Dattathreya. Dattathreya observes a male elephant blinded by lust.In olden times, often tamed female elephants (sometimes a stuffed female elephant in the absence of a real one) were used to trap a male elephant. Hunters usually dig a big and deep hole and hide it by covering the top with grass and mud. Then they will have the tamed female elephant lure the male elephant to the covered pit. (The sense of touch or sparsha is used to lure the male elephants). This is done during the mating season of the elephants. Lured by the female elephant, the male elephant, blinded by lust, runs after her and falls in to the deep ditch. Then hunters use the same tamed female elephant to lure him again and gets him out of the pit. Then the taming process starts and the poor elephant who fell into the pit and came out of it following the female elephant never gets a chance even to see her and becomes a victim of unbearable torture. Dattathreya told king Yadu : A wise man should be very careful not to be obsessed with passion and lust. He should not let lust over-ride his own sense of judgment and discrimination. If he is not careful, there is a real danger of falling into a world of misery. Blinded by passion and emotion, he may not be able to see the danger ahead. So the only solution to avoid such a mistake is not to become a slave of our senses (indriyaas), but to be a master of them.
