Guest guest
Hare Krishna !Hi allIt was explained to us during the last sapthaham at home which was in October 07 that they are not 16008 wives, but they are the vedas who came with the Lord to the earth as they said it seems, What is the point of our being here when you are going to take an avatharam on the earth as " Krishna " . So, please don't call them as his wives. Gopikas are also part of them. best regards, jayasree menon 2008/6/11 Saroja Ramanujam <sarojram18: The other four are, Kaalindhee, Sathya, Bhadhraa and Lakshmana The sloka that mentions the eight wives of Krishna is bhaishmee jaambhavathee bhaamaasathyaa bhadhraa cha lakshmaNaa kaalindhee mithravindhaa cha ithashtou pattmahaashtriyaH Dr. Saroja Ramanujam, M.A., Ph.D, Siromani in sanskrit. www.freewebs.com/asrama3 --- On Wed, 6/11/08, anishnair11 <anishnair11 wrote: anishnair11 <anishnair11[Guruvayur] Bhagavan's most liked 8 wifes guruvayur Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 2:11 PM dear all,I know that sreekrishna bhagavan had 16008 wifes. and in that8 of them are most liked to bhagavan. here i m writing names of 4persons out of eight..i dont know other four's names..any one complete?? 1. Guest guest
Dear Jayantiji and all other friends, Radhe krishna! First of all, the name of "Shaibya" is something which has created quite a lot of confusion among the readers. There are many interpretations on the name "Shaibya". As per Bhagavatam and Narayaneeyam, the name is attributed to Mitravinda. This is confirmed by the fact that when Draupadi calls out the names of the eight wives of the Lord at Samantapanchakam, "HEY VAIDARBHYACHYUTO BHADRE HEY JAMBAVATI KOUSALE, HEY SATYABHAME KALINDI, SHAIBYE ROHINI LAKSHMANE." As Mitravinda's name is not separately mentioned and all other names correspond to the other seven wives, by the elimination process, we can continue saying that "Shaibya" refers only to Mitravinda. However, we will briefly describe the story of the Lord's marriage with Mitravinda, Satya as well as Bhadra. The more we describe the Lord's exploits, it is more interesting to hear. But we will describe it in a short form, as a special article on the topic is in the offing. Mitravinda Mitravinda, was princess of the kingdom of Avanti and daughter of Rajadhidevi, Vasudeva's sister. She was deeply in love with Krishna, but was scared of her brothers, by name Vinda and Anuvinda. Listening to the wrong advice of Duryodhana, they were determined to see that she was not married to Krishna and hence arranged a Swayamvara for her on the condition that she must choose any king except Krishna. Her father had called an assembly of kings at his capital to enable her to elect her own partner in life. Krishna too attended the assembly. Needless to say, in a Swayamvara muscle-power also plays an important part! Krishna, vanquishing all other kings in battle, took her away to Dwaraka in the Rakshasa style 'even as the lion carries away his prey from a pack of dogs'. Her brothers, who offered Him resistance, were equally worsted in the fight. (Ref. Bhagavatam Skandha X-Chapter 83.) Satya. In the kingdom of Ayodhya, there was a king by name Nagnajit. His daughter Satya (Naagnajiti) was very well known for her beauty and pleasing disposition. Many kings desired to marry her. But Nagnajit had decided that only the one who was capable of taming and tying up at the same time, all the seven strong bulls he was rearing, would qualify to win her hand. Many kings tried their hand at this game, but had to give up disappointed, with their strength proving unequal to the task. Thereafter, Krishna, going there and assuming seven forms, subdued all the seven strong bulls together, tied them up and then married Satya. To subdue and tie up strong bulls used to be Krishna's pastime, right from His childhood days! (The game of taming angry bulls stated above is practised even today in some countries, (especially in Spain). In India, in arenas specially built for the purpose, the charging bulls are let out and men compete with each other, the prize for subduing the bull being the money-bag tied between the horns or even the hand of a chosen bride of the village. In South India, the game is known as “Jalli-kettu”. This is a hazardous game, sometimes ending in fatality for the participants and even for the on-lookers, getting gored by the bulls.) Bhadra Vasudeva had a sister, by name, Srutakirti whose daughter, Bhadra, was very well known for her beauty and charm. Knowing that she had given away her heart to Lord Krishna, her father sent word for Krishna of his own accord, and the brothers of Bhadra, Santhardana and others, kings of Kekaya land, gave away Bhadra in marriage to Lord Krishna.
