Guest guest
Dear all,We saw that as per Suka Rahasyopanishad, Sukadeva did not learn the vedaas from his father. He learnt all knowledge from Siva Bhagavan and became Jeevan muktha or liberated soul. He was only interested in the " essence " of knowledge from which nothing needs to be discarded and he was immersed in that Brahmaananda samadhi continuously. One day Vyaasamuni chanted Bhagavatham in front of Sukadeva who was in samadhi. Nothing happened. He again chanted the whole Bhagavatham. Still Sukadeva was in samadhi and did not wake up to hear what was happening in the baahya prapancham or outside world. Then he started chanting the third time and Sukadeva woke up from the samadhi and started dancing in the bhakthi ocean of Bhagavatham. He opened his eyes and saw his father reading Bhaagavatham. He prostrated before his father and requested Vyaasamuni to give Bhagavatham advice to him. When Sukadeva requested Vyaasamuni to advice Bhagavatham, his happiness knew no bounds. Vyaasamuni taught him Bhagavatham and thus became his Guru as well. When Sukadeva heard the Bhagavatha katha, the bhakthi rasam in it brought him back to the baahya prapancham because Bhagavatha katha was even more enjoyable than the brahmaananda rasam. So through Bhagavatham, which is the ultimate essence of all Vedaas with nothing to discard, Vyaasa muni became his Guru. " Srimad Bhagavathaakhyoyam prathyaksha Krishna eva hi " meaning Bhagavahtam is the personification of Krishna- this became clear to Sukadeva. Sukadeva not only learned Bhagavatham, but appeared before Parikshit Maharaj who was doing " praayopavesham " . Prayopavesham is the age old practice of weaning off life by systematically bringing down the intake of food. Sukadeva did the first Bhagavatha Sapthaaham for Parikshit Maharaj and gave him salvation in seven days. ( sapthaaham is saptha+ aham meaning 7 daytimes. He was telling the story during day time for seven days) . Then Suta also was present in the audience and later Suta came to Naimishaaranyam to tell the stories to other munis like Sounaka.
