Guest guest
Dear All, How in the world Mahalakshmi, who is the synonym of wealth can be poor! This word " poor " is not used to mean poverty. It is used as a sympathetic gesture like " paavam " in Malayalam. It means Mahalakshmi is in a disadavantageous predicament and this adjective " poor " is used to show sympathy. No doubt, She is wealth personified. Now what is her sad predicament? She is called " chanchala Lakshmi " or " restless Lakshmi " even though she has long lasting relationship with Vishnu Bhagavan. She never leaves His side and is the faithful consort of Lord vishnu. Then why is she called Chanchala Lakshmi? The secret is that our ancient seers know the nature of wealth and they saw that who ever obstructs the flow of wealth, who ever hoards and refuses to share with the less fortunate eventually lost all their wealth. Sometimes wealth may tempt some people to forget about the Lord, and the moment Lord is removed from their mind, Lakshmi also disappears and this name " chanchala " or fickle natured is attributed to her for none of her fault. She cannot be separated from Vishnu Bhagavan and whoever forgets Sreedhar (one who carries Lakshmi) , She leaves them immediately. With out knowing the actual reason of her sudden disappearance, people call Her " chanchala Lakshmi " . Goddess Lakshmi does not show favoritism. He gave Ravana and Hiranyakashipu tons of wealth. But they lost everything and even life when they stood against Vishnu Bhagavan. Sudama was poor, but he was always thinking of Vishnu Bhagavan and Lakshmi came to him making him Sreemaan. To quote the Bhaktha Ranjini commentary: " the easiest way to acquire the blessing of Goddess Lakshmi is to worship with untainted devotion, the Lord who is her consort and in whom she resides " . Lakshmidevi looks at every individual and blesses them according to the need. She knows what is the best for each individual to get closer to Lord.. In some cases she takes away all the wealth because she finds the abundance becoming an obstacle in their spiritual advancement. In some other cases, she showers riches and happiness because she sees that this enrichment helps them to advance spiritually and they are utilising the good fortune to help less fortunate and spread the glory of her Sreenivas. Take the example of Sudama or kuchela. Lakshmi left him in poverty to make him closer to Krishna and when she saw that nothing can change his unconditional devotion, she showered him with everything. He remained as the greatest devotee and deenabandhu. So let us pray Lakshmidevi to bless us to realize that She comes and goes for a reason and She knows what is best for us. Whenever we feel we are lacking something, it is for sure to make us closer to Lord Vishnu. Whenever we feel we are blessed with abundance let Her bless us to share with less fortunate. So Mahaalaksshi is Achanchala (with out fickleness) and persuades us to have Achanchala Bhakthi in Vishnu Bhagavan! Regards and prayers Savitri
