Guest guest
Dear all, Since it is Ramayana month I thought it will be a good idea for all of us to think about Rama and His stories at least once a day. So I am attempting to recollect all the stories connected to Ramayanam, I have heard and read all these years. Let us look at the meaning of the word Raamaayanam. Rama+ Ayanam = Ramaayanam. 1. As per Padma puraanam, Rama comes from - " ramanthe yoginonanthe brahmaande chidaatmani " meaning the one in whose memory the yogis revel in the bliss of brahman. 2. " Ra " means glittering or glowing or illuminating and " ma " means world. This means that all light in the world comes from Rama, no entity possesses it's own light. Na thathra sooryo bhaathi na chandra thaarakam nema vidyutho bhaanthi kuthoyamagni: thvameva bhaantham anubhaathi sarvam thasya bhaasa sarvamidam vibhaathi Meaning : " Before that effulgent Supreme Entity, neither the sun shines, nor the moon nor stars nor the lightning flash, what to speak of fire. In Parama Purusha's light all other entities shine. His effulgence illuminates all entities " . 3. Ravanasya Maranam , the first letter of Ravana " ra " and first letter of maranam " ma " makes the word Rama. Symbolically Ravana represents one whose senses are always turned outwards. Ravana means a mind moving away from God. Ravana can be defeated or destroyed only when you take shelter in Rama. Under whose emergence all tamoguna dies is Rama. 4. Beejaksharam of Narayana " ra " and Namasivaya " ma " together gives Rama. This means Rama represents the joined power of Vishnu and Siva and hence Istadevatha of both vaishnavites and Shaivites Ayanam means 1. Going. By this meaning, we can interpret Ramayana in two ways: Rama's going to the forest from the palace. (the big part of ramayana story happens there.) or Journey to reach Rama who is sat-chit -aanandam. 2. Seven regions (sapthalokas). When you take this meaning, Ramayana shows us the way to cross the samsaara saagaram consisting of seven worlds and finally attain moksha. 3. Speed or path or to go. This meaning gives a different twist for the word ramayana. Ramayana leads us to moksha with out delay or path is clearly shown for us to go forwarrd and merge with Rama. The Thaaraka naamam " Rama " of Naami Rama of Ramayana takes us across the ocean of samsaara. Regards and prayers Savitri
Guest guest
HARI AUM It is a good idea Savitriji. By just remembering 'Rama' one gives oneself a chance to cleanse his being. For those like me who finds little time out of the rat race it is a real blessing. May 'his' stories enlighten the days.
