Dear all,

We know that there are hundreds and hundreds of devotees of Rama and

there had been great devotees starting from Hanumanji, then

Thyagarajji, Thulassidasji etc upto Chinmayaanada Swamiji. Now this

story is about a devotee from the animal kingdom. Not a monkey from

Hanumanji's family, but about a bird in Jatayuji's family- a crow.

Once Rama and Lakshmana were walking beside Pampa River. Lakshmana saw

a big crow on the other side of the river. It was coming near water,

bend it's head as if it was thirsty and wanted to drink some water.

But just before touching the water with the beak, it will straighten

it's neck and run back to where it came from. Lakshmana saw the crow

doing this several times. So Lakshmana asked Lord Rama why this crow

is showing this strange behaviour. If it is thirsty, why is it not

drinking the water?

Rama said: Lakshmana, there is a good reason for this crow to do

that. This crow is a big devotee of mine. He is constantly chanting my

name. As you guessed, he is very thirsty. He is hesitant to drink

water because then he would have to interrupt the constant chanting.

He prefers to stay thirsty than breaking his akhanda naama japam

(chanting with out break).

His bhaakthi is achanchalam and I will bless Him to continue doing

that until he reaches me. From now on he will not know the thirst or

hunger and He will have mokshaa soon.

Lakshmana immediately prostrated before Rama and then prostrated one

more time before the crow, who is a great devotee of his brother Rama.

Regards and prayers
