Guest guest
Dear all, When we trace the ancestry of Rama given in Valmiki Ramayaanam or Bhagavatham, several names are not familiar. Even though they were part of the lineage, they are not remembered for anything special. Let us start from Brahma and glance through well known kings until we reach our dear Lord Ramachandra. Saptharshis or seven sages are the maanasa or samkalpa puthraas of Brahma. Marichi Maharshi was one of them. We will start from there and skip the unknown names and see how we will reach our beloved Rama. So, Brahma ----> Marichi----> Kashyap-----> Soorya devan or Vivaswaan-----> Vaivaswatha Manu (first member of solar dynasty, son of soorya bhagavan)-------> Ikshvaku (first king of Ayodhya. Often Srirama's vamsham is called Ikshvaku vamsham). After Ikshvaku, the most well known king is Thrishanku who wanted to take his mortal body to heaven and suffered a very unusual fate. Harischandra who was renowned for telling truth followed Thrishanku. After skipping several generations, we get to Sagara Raja after whose name ocean got the name Saagara. After skipping three more generations, we come to Bhagiratha who brought river Ganga to earth. Next king after skipping 12 generations is Khatvaanga who got moksham in 48 minutes. Khatvaanga----> Dileep-----> Raghu (After King Raghu the name of the dynasty became Raghuvamsham,Mahakavi Kalidaasa's Raghuvamsham).------> Ajan------> Dasharathan-------> Lord Sri Rama. After Brahma, Sri Rama was born after sixty one generations. Or if Brahma is taken as first generation, Lord Rama is 62nd Genreation. This is according to Bhagavatha. There is some difference in the number of kings in Valmiki Ramayanam and Bhagavatham. Let Sri Raamachandra bless all of us who have gone through several cycles of birth and death to make this our saadhya janmam to attain Him. Regards and prayers savitri
