Guest guest
Dear all, We all know that Hanuman's strength is extraordinary. Not only strength, but buddhi:, balam, yasha:, dhairyam, nirbhayathwam, arogatha, ajjaadyam, vvak patuthvam also contributed to Hanuman's greatness. Still Hanuman could not kill B(V)ali. There is no doubt that Bali also was extremely strong. But it is surprising that Hanuman did not even attempt to go against him. There is a story behind this also. Like all children, baby Hanuman also was very restless and mischievous. In addition to the hyper activity, he had unusual strength also. Like any other baby monkey, he was constantly trying to have fun. So Hanuman set out to play his innocent pranks on the sages living in the nearby ashramams. He will jump on the thatched roofs of their huts and make holes in the roof, throw the firewood around, disturb the pooja items and steal their food and fruits. Maharshis were tired and cursed him that even though he had enormous strength, he would be unaware of his own power and strength and would not use it against anybody.. Mother Anjanadevi heard the sages cursing her beloved son and begged their pardon and requested to decrease the harshness of the curse. Then sages modified the curse and said that he would not realize his strength and power until a great soul reminded him about his potential. Later, Jaambavan, a great devotee of Raama ( a huge monkey- in Kerala he is known as a huge monkey and Jaambavan is a huge bear for some others) reminded him of his power and encouraged him to cross the ocean and go to Lanka to see Sitadevi. Then with full confidence and Raama in his heart and Raama naamam on his lips, he crossed the ocean in one jump and saw Sitadevi, promised her that Rama would come back and rescue her in no time, set fire to Lanka and came back. But Bali vadham was before he met Jaambavan and at that time he was not aware of his own strength and did not dare to encounter Bali. Because of the curse, Hanuman could not help Sugreeva in killing Bali. Later Bali was fortunate to die by Rama's hands and got instant salvation.
