Guest guest
Hari OM! I really love this concept of 'selfishness'. A few years back I heard a Swamiji at the Ramakrishna Mission in Trissur was lamenting about how 'unselfish' people are these days. He said, "nowadays no one is interested in being good themselves; they all want others to be good. How unselfish! The world will become a better place only if there are more 'selfish' people who want to become better on their own and then it will be contageous!" (in malayalam, he said "swayam nannaavaan aarkkum pattilla. mattullavar nannaayikkotte ennaanu....) Thanks for bringing back the memory! Lets all be 'selfish' and become good, better and best.... (TO BE ESTABLISHED IN 'DHARMA!!)Arjuna got confused when Krishna asked him to fight, kill, win back the rightful kingdom, enjoy wealth, prosperity and kingship and then begin the journey to 'realise' the self. Why is 'he' asking to be selfish to one's own 'dharma'? Is that how one can be selfless to the world? But shouldn't one be selfless towards others ? Isn't nature selfless?..The selfless 'mango tree' gives awayyyyyyy mangoes. What if it hadn't pushed its roots deeper piercing the earth, spread its braches and leaves taller and wider to reach and seek for nourishments and sunlight.... being selfish to its 'dharma' of growing and growing and then to selflessly.. .To be selfless to the world first be selfish to one's 'dharma' !! It took a tour of the 'Gita' estate spread over 700 verses with 18 super institues as Bhagavan himself as the guide and tutor to get a feel of this simple fact of life for Arjuna.Be selfish to one's 'dharma'!
