Guest guest
Dear All, I wish to conduct the choroonu ceremony of my daughter in Guruvayur in 2 months' time. I heard that it's always better to do the booking in advance. Could anyone here advise me on the procedure to be followed for the same? Regards, Hari
Guest guest
OM NAMO BHAGAVATE VASUDEVAYA! Dear Hariji , I think the booking for Choroon is current . There is nothing the Temple authorities has to arrange special for this function and it is being conducted on a regular basis . What the parents has to do is to come to the temple in traditional attire . After this , some parents lay the baby in front of the diety and walks back as if they have donated the child to Shri.Guruvayoorappan . Some of the on looking devottess will pick the child and hand over to the parents and accepts a nominal Dakshina . This is what I have witnessed on my countless visit to the temple. If some one else could give more information , it will be helpful for all. The saddest part of my life is that I was not a party to my First Son's Choroon in front of the Maya Krishnan due to my busy service schedule in Delhi. Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Go to http://in.messenger./invite/ Choroonu is an important function in the age of the child and what is given to the child is the prasadam from the temple served in a plantain leaf. You have to take a token for the chorunu and wait with the child at the eastern nada. The santhikaran will place a plantain leaf and serve cooked rice and some other prasadam in the leaf. The traditional way is to make the child have the taste of all items. The father or the uncle clad in the traditional dress sits with the child in the lap and takes a small quantity of the cooked rice and mixes it with other prasadams and feeds the child. The quantity has to be very small. The child usually relishes what is given to it. After this you may give dakshina to the santhikaran according to your wish. If mother also wants to feed she too can take her turn to feed the child. There is no hard and fast rule. Some children start howling at the top of their voice and refuse to take anything at all. It is ok. Dont spoil the mood of the child. You have to be careful that the child does not wet the floor otherwise they may ask you to pay for the purification ceremony also.
