Guest guest
Dear all, Karna is daanasheelan means by nature Karna is a giver. Here is a not so well known story about his daanasheelam. Krishna, Arjuna and and Karna were together talking about different topics. Krishna always praises when He sees something good in others. So He praised about Karna's charity. Arjuna was very possessive of Krishna and often felt jealous when Krishna praises or acts close to anybody else other than Him. That was his dourbalyam or weakness. Krishna's great love for Arjuna prompted Him to do something to remove his best friend's weakness. As they were talking, one man came there and told them that his wife died and he needed some sandalwood for cremation. He said that he searched everywhere and he could not find any sandalwood pieces anywhere nearby. Arjuna proactively called his assistants and asked them to look for some sandalwood and help that man. All his assistants searched and came back and told him that they could not find any sandalwood pieces. So Arjuna told this man : " Sorry, I tried my best and could not get any. So please go ahead and do the cremation without sandalwood. " Then this widower approached Karna because he had heard a lot about Karna's kindness. Karna felt very sad to let him go with out the sandalwood he needed. He meditated for some time and came up with an idea. He remembered that the pillars of his palace were made of sandalwood. He told his assistants to bring an axe. With out wasting a moment he himself went to the palace, chopped some pillars and gave enough sandalwood for him. After seeing the relieved widower leave, Karna ordered the repair of the pillars. This widower came running to Krishna and told Him what Karna did and how much he appreciated Karna's kindness. Then Krishna turned to Arjuna and told : " Arjuna, now you know why I praised Karna in front of you. He is kindness personified. " Arjuna was humbled and thanked Krishna for the great lesson. Krishna sees the good side of everybody and gives lessons to all of us to teach us different values. Let Krishna Himself give us the strength to see every good and bad experience as an opportunity to become a better and more sincere devotee.
