AMME NARAYANA : DEVEE NARAYANA

We Keralites celebrate NAVARATHRI By worshiping the three forms of

Goddess Adiparashakthi - Shakhi , Dhanam & Vidya. In North India there

are two types of celeberations.

1-Worship of Devi Parashakthi for Nine days observing strict fast -

eating only fruits, vegetables and milk products . Most families

arrange a special place in their houses to worship the Goddess and

observe the fast. This will continue for nine days and on the final day

- mostly on Mahanavami day -girls below the age of 10 are invited and

worshiped in the form of Goddess . They will be given - puri ,boiled

black grams and halwa made of Suji as prasad and some Dakshina . The

fast is broken after eating this prasad by the families.

There is one more Navarathri festival here prior to Sri Ramajayanthi

also . But it does not have as much importance as which is around the

corner.

2-The Other Celeberation is the performance of Ramalila. It is also

belived that Bhagwan Sri Raman had given Moksham to Ravana on the

Dusshera Day . So the Ramayana Episodes will be played at night on all

nine days. On the 10th Day , Effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and

Kumbhakarna will be erected and will be consumed to flames marking the

end of the festival .

To put everything in a nutshell, Navarathri means the victory of

DHARMA OVER ADHARMA
