Dear all,

Lord Hari and Lord Hara worshipped each other with great devotion. Even though one person is in charge of the maintenance of the Universe (sthithipaalakan) and other person, in charge of the destruction of the universe(samhaara paalakan), they respected mutually and between them they had a devotional friendship.

One day Hari decided to do archana of Hara with 1000 lotus flowers. So he collected thousand beautiful lotus flowers by himself and with sincere devotion meditated on Hara and started offering the flowers one by one. He kept a count becasue he was very particular to offer all the thousand flowers with ananya bhakthi.

Meanwhile, Hara wanted to test his closest friend's sincerity of affection for Him. So he just hid one flower. Hari finished 999 flowers and could not find the thousandth flower. He did not want to break his prayer becasue he thought it was inauspicious to break his offering of 1000 flowers just before the last flower. So with out a moment of hesitation, he removed one of His own eyes, which resembled so much to the beautiful petals of a lotus, and offered that as the 1000th flower and did saashtaanga namaskaar to Hara! When Hari got up, He saw Hara smiling at Him and in a moment the eye He removed was reattached by itself.

Also Hara, extremely pleased by Hari's unswerving devotion and affection, blessed him with the greatest gift anybody ever got and anybody would ever get! Sudarshana chakram, which could read the minds of Hari and his devotees and acted accordingly, was the gift. To this day Hari proudly carries the chakram ever ready to punish anybody who hurts Hari's devotees. No one will be spared and even Hara's son Durvasa could not escape the chakram when he mistreated the great Hari-devotee Ambarisha. Rememeber the story of Gajendra moksham, remember how Parikshith was protected from the brahmaasthram in the womb of Utthara!

..

Maha Sudarshana Manthra chanted during the Sudarshana yagnam performed at the Meenakshi temple.

Om shreem hreem kleem Krishnaaya Govindaaya Gopijanavallabhaaya paraaya paramapurushaaya paramaathmane!

Para karma manthra yanthra thanthra oushadha asthra shasthraani samhara samhara,

aayurvardhaya vardhaya, mruthyOr mOchaya mOchaya, shathroon naashaya naashaya,

Om namO Bhagavathe Mahaa Sudarshanaaya deepthre, jvaala pareethaaya, sarvadik kshobhanakaraaya

Hum phat param brahmane param jyothishe

Om sahasraara Hum phat swaaha.

Regards and prayers

Savitri
