Guest guest
Dear all, In Brihadaaranyaka Upanishad there is a dialogue between Sage Yangnavalkya and King Janaka and this dialogue explains about the light of lights- SELF. Janaka asked Yagnavalkya: " What is the light with which people act in this world? " Yagnavalkya had an immediate and simple answer SUN. In sunlight, people do most of their important work and all the animate and inanimate beings use energy from the sun for transformation and development. Then Janaka had a genuine question about functioning in the absence of sunlight. Yangnavalkya answered that ; " MOON is the next source of energy and light. " Then King Janaka asked what was the solution when moonlight and sunlight were not available. Yagnavalya's next answer was " FIRE " . Janaka asked : " What if the fire is put out, Sir? " Yangvaklkya said: " King, at that time, SOUND OR VOICE alone is one's light. With the aid of sound one can move around and do some work " . As expected, King Jananka's next question was about the state when sound also had stopped. Yangnavalkya said, " Oh! King, then the ultimate light of SELF guides us. One can perform all the actions with the help of the self alone. " Janaka asked: 'Which is the self? Please explain more about it. Yangnavalkya said: " The Self, Your Majesty, is the Knowing One, here among our various parts -- the Inner Light within the heart. It is He who sees this world of our waking state. It is He who sees the world of dream. And, in the dreamless sleep, when we think that we are not seeing, the Self is there, witnessing. " " There can never be an end to the seeing of the Seer. He is eternal. In deep sleep, you seem to know nothing, but in truth, the Self goes on knowing, for can there ever be an end to the knowing of the Knower? No. He exists forever. " In the space within your heart lies this One Controller of All, the Master of All. It cannot be destroyed. It does not attach Itself to anything. It is not bound, does not suffer, is not injured. Good and evil do not affect It. " " When a person clearly sees this Self inside as God, the Lord of the past and the future, then he has nothing to fear. This is the undying, fearless Brahman. Fearless, indeed, is Brahman, and he who knows this becomes the fearless Brahman. " Deepaaraadhana or Aarathi sthothram glorifying that light of lights: Na thathra Sooryo bhaathi na ChandraThaarakam naima vidyutho bhaanthi kuthoyamagni: thamaeva bhaantham anubhaathi sarvam thasya bhaasa sarvamidam vibhaathi The sun cannot light Him, nor the moon, nor the stars, nor lightning nor what we call fire, through Him all of them shine and through his expression, everything is expressed.
