Parasurama was a partial avathaara as the divinity manifested only at the time of his destruction of kshatiryas .Parasurama ,so called because his weapon was parasu, axe, rooted out the kshatriyas under the pretext of avenging the murder of his father by Karthaviryarjuna because they were following the path of adharma. After uprooting them Parasurama gave the earth he has conquered to sage Kasyapa and retired beyond the ocean.

Parasurama signifies the yogi who has rooted out the inner enemies like kaama and krodha which are portrayed by the kshatriyas. When sattwa rises to the surface there is peace ,denoted by the gift of the earth to Kasyapa. The axe of Parasurama is viveka and vairagya, discrimination and detachment, armed with which one can conquer the inner foes. The incarnation comes to an end on the occasion of the meeting between Parasurama and Rama when the Lord assumes back His powers.

It is difficult to distinguish Balaramaavathaara from that of Krisna as Balarama was the elder brother of Krishna and they were together in all their exploits.Balarama being the incarnation of Adhisesha has been elevated to the status of being the eidhtth avathaara because of his super human powers and hence considered to be Samkarshana, one of the four vyuha forms of Lord Narayana. The plough and the mace, the weapons of Balarama are viveka and vairagya respectively, by which he ploughs the mind and breaks the shackles of desire.

In valmki ramayana we have the sloka 'bhagavan raamapathnee saa prasoothaa dhaarakadhvayam.' the deisclpes of Valmki inform him that Seetha had given birth to twins. Valmiki Ramayana is the soulce of all ramayanas and hence it should be taken as authoritative. If the other story was true surely Valmiki would have n mentioned it.

Namaste,I have a doubt about avatharams. It is mentioned that Balarama and Krishna are 8th and 9th avataram. But I have heard that Balarama is actually an incarnation of Anantha. Then how can He be considered as one of the avatharams? Why 2 avatharams at the same time? I read in a book on Ramayana that after Sita Rama wedding, on their way back to Ayodhya, "Parasurama halted Sree Rama and challenged him to fight with Parasurama. Seeing Rama's modesty and heroism, Parashurama realised that Rama was indeed the incarnation of Lord Vishu. Parashurama acknowledged his mistake and departed". Is this correct? In the same book, it is mentioned that after Sita was send away to forest by Rama, she gave birth to Lava from Valmiki's hermitage. "Sita doted on Lava, but such was the safety of the hermitage that she usually left him unattended while she went to bathe. One day, when Valmiki looked in to her room and saw that Lava was not there, he

was immediately worried that the baby had been carried off somehow. Knowing that Sita will be out of her mind with worry, Valmiki made an exact replica of Lava out of kusa grass. Soon afterwards, Sita returned from her bath carrying Lava with her. She looked with amazement at the copy of her child, Valmiki explained what happened and called him Kusa since he was made from kusa grass". What I have always heard since childhood is that Sita gave birth to twins - Lava and Kusa. Can someone please tell as to which is the correct one?(The book is Short Stories from Ramayan for children from Nita Mehta Publication)Jai Sree Krishna
