Guest guest
Dear all, Even though we all celebrate birthdays, it is interesting to note that birthdays of only two books and one sthotra in the whole world is celebrated. What are those books? Bhagavad Gita and Naaraayaneeyam(Gitadinam and Naaraayaneeya dinam.) What is the auspicious sthotra? Vishnusahasranaamasthotram. Janamdinam or birthday of Vishnusahasranaamam is also known as Bheeshma Ekadashi because Bheeshmaachaarya chanted Vishnusahasranaamam on that day. Let us look at the scenario. Bheeshmaaachaarya reverently known as Bhisha Pitaamaha was the son of Shanthanu Maharaja and Ganga Devi. He promised his stepmother Sathyavathi that he would never marry and remained celebate all his life. He was a master of martial arts and war strategies. He promised his father Shanthanu that he would protect the future king of his kingdom. This noble son of Shantanu was blessed with a boon from his father to choose the time of his death - " swacchanda mruthyu. " Because of the special circumstances, he had to support the Kauravaas who were extremely unfair to the righteous Pandavaas. He could foresee the tragedy that was to befall on the kingdom. He had to witness the jealous and revengeful actions of Duryodhana with a sad heart in that special predicament. The unavoidable war started and on the tenth day, Bhishma fell down and his bed was made of Arjuna's arrows! He could choose the time of his death and he waited until the war was over. Then Krishna came to see him with Yudhishtira and that is when he chanted the Vishnusahasranamam seeing Krishna in front of Him and soon he embraced moksham. It happened in Maagha maasam, on an Ekadashi day. So this Ekaadashi (eleventh day of lunar fortnight) is called Bheeshma Ekadashi. It is very auspicious to take vratham on this Ekadashi and chant Vishnusahasranaamam. It comes in January-February. Every devotee wishes happy birthday to Vishnusahasra naamam and THE NAAMI (one who is represented by all the thousand naamaas) by chanting it with intense devotion. For a devotee everyday is birthday of Vishnusahasranaamam! Regards and prayers savitri

As I had written before, with His blessings, we hope to have sampoorna Naaraayaneeya paaraayanm on 13th. Since Geethadinam comes on a weekday, Gitagroup is having Geetha paaraayanam on 13th and 14th. We hope to attend on 14th. Vishnusahasranaama dinam or Bheeshma ekadasi falls on 1. as per one calendar it is on Januray 28th 2. Another calendar says it is January 29th. (I think some follow the day with out any dvadashi and some follow differently. ) Regards and prayers savitri On Wed, Nov 5, 2008 at 7:21 AM, Saroja Ramanujam <sarojram18 > wrote: It would be useful to all if the date of birthdays of Geetha , narayaneeyam and Vishnusahsranama are specified for every year.
