Guest guest
THank you all for your comments. Sri Chthpuramji has given a more elaborate description of the whole episode. This and the comment that the Krishnavathara is often misinterpreted tempts me to reproduce my writings on vedantadesika's Yadhavabhyudhaya, which is a wonderful kavya regading Krishnavathara , and which I had not posted to this group since it was beingmade into ebook at that time in the website sadgopan.org. i am writing on Bhagavatham but the dasmaskandha dealing with Krishnavathar will be posted only after considerable time as I am now in 3rd skandha only. So in oreder that the members will b able to relish the story of Krshna as given out by Desika which is steeped in devotion and abounds in literary beauty, I will start posting yadhavbhyudhaya to this group. Regarding the criticism of Kroshna having so many wives etc.the gurudevs of this group can answer thus: Krshna was present in the house of all his wives at the same time.If any one can do it they are welcome to marry as amny asthey like.It is not only people ofother religions who decry Krshna but even among Hindus it is a common usage to sayveettil Raman, veLiyil Krishan, which they mean as a joke but it lacks responsibility and good sense. The chapters dealing with Rasleela form the centre of Bhagavatham and said to be the heart of Bhagavatham. As Chithrpuramji has mento ioned, the whole Bhagavatha was told by Suka, who was abrahmajnani and heard by sages who have renounced th world and Parikshit who was awaiting his death. Krishna mentions himself as an example of sthithprajna and there is a story about the reality of Krishna , which I will relate in my posts on the Gita soon enough, in which Kishna refers to himself as nithyabrahmachari. This may be difficut to believe but Krihna being th supreme self, was present in every being including his wives, and they experienced the joy of His union as though He was present. At this juncture I would like to relate an incident in the life of the Parmacharya of Kanchi. At the toime when there was a total financial collapse meany of the dec votees of Sankaramutt feared to become bankrupt and prayed to the Paramacharya and some of them came to the mutt and siad that they saw him in person and he was reassuring them not to worry and that they were saved. One devotee (I got it from his mouth) who was present asked Paramcharya whether he really went in person to reassure them. Paramcharya laughed and said " I am here only but it is their faith which has manifested me before them. This may give us some idea about the reference by Krishm na that he was nithyabrahmachari. I shall start the posting of Yadhavabhyudhay soon so that the members could enjoy the necar of the story of Krishna distributed in the golden cup of desika's poetry. My heart melted on writin on it and it would do so for you also.Saroja Ramanujam Dr. Saroja Ramanujam, M.A., Ph.D, Siromani in sanskrit. www.freewebs.com/asrama3 --- On Sun, 11/9/08, Sajan Sukumaran <sajan_sukumaran wrote: Sajan Sukumaran <sajan_sukumaran[Guruvayur] Rasaleela"Guruvayur Group" <guruvayur >Sunday, November 9, 2008, 8:16 PM Respected Chithpuramji and Sarojamji, Excellent comments on Rasalila. Perhaps this episode may be the one which has been widely misused, misinterpreted and criticized. Friends from other religions use this as a weapon to tarnish us saying that your lord has 16008 wives, he performed rasaleela with others wives etc.etc. Due to lack of knowledge about the subject we cannot give them an answer to such comments. There is a practice of using our Bhagwans name “Srikrishna” as a synonym to those who have illicit relationship with girls. It is interesting to note that His age was 7 years only at the time of rasaleela. I have read the same in our Dilipji’s posting earlier. In one translation of Sri Maha Bhagawatham, the author commented that on repeated reading of Rasaleela one can understand the inner meanings. So, for those who do not know Sanskrit, detailed explanations from scholars like you would be very helpful. Thank you for the postings. Expecting more detailed studies.
