The Wish Tree

On a hot summer's day, a traveller stopped under a shady tree to rest for a

while. Little did he realise that the tree was a special one. While lying down

on the shade of the tree, he thought how better it would be, if he had a soft

bed to sleep on and lo! suddenly a bed appeared from nowhere. Lying on the bed,

he thought it was perfect with good soft white sheets. Now all he needed was a

maiden to keep him company in the lonely place and again! suddenly a beautiful

maiden appeared before him and started fanning him. Soon he started thinking

that he couldnt have had a lovelier companion, but it would be good if he had

some good food to eat. Suddenly there appeared various types of food, fruits and

drinks. The traveller ate and drank till he was content and again lay down, his

companion fanning him and attending to him. The traveller felt it was the peak

of happiness, but what would happen if all this should disappear and a tiger

should suddenly attack

him and lo! there was a fierce tiger ready to devour him. The traveller somehow

clambered up the tree. He thought had he been content with just the shade of the

tree, he would not be at the mercy of the ferocious tiger.
