Guest guest
155. upendhraH upagathaH indhram anujathvena. The one who was born as the younger brother of Indra. The Lord manifested as the younger brother of Indra as Vamana since Indra was also the son of Adhithi and Kasyapa This and the eleven names that follow refer to Vamanavathara. 156. vaamanaH drashtRn svakaanthyaa vaamaani nayathi. He gives pleaure to the onlookers by His radiant personality. This has reference to the form of vamana. The meaning of Vamana is `short.' It is said in srmadbhagavatham, darSaneeyam manoramam; roopaanuroopaavayavam The form of the Lord as Vamana was pleasing to look at and beautiful with a body with appropriate limbs. He is called Vamana also because he bestows all wishes to he devotees. sarvaaNi vaamaani nayathi 157. praamSuh He who was Vamana was Himself praamSuH, which means tall as He became Thrivikrama. 158. amoghah The word mogha means futile. The Lord is amoghaH as no act of His is without purpose. Nothing is meaningless. For example the animals like horse and camels are endowed with specoal requisites such as long legs, undivided hoofa and lump on back etc. In vamanavathra He graced Indra as well as Mahabali equally. The purpose of the avathara was to show Mahabali as a great devotee to the world 159. SuchiH Pure. Everything in the universe is pure in its real state because He is the essence of everything. The impurities are the effect of three gunas of prakrthi which adhere through the association with prkrthi. Thus the Lord is termed as pavithraaNaam pavithram. The Lord also purifies those who meditate on or worship Him as Andal has said in Thiruppaavai, `vaayinaal paadi manadhinaal chinthikka pOya pizaiyum pugutharuvaan ninRanavum theeyinil tooSaagum.' Singing His glory, and contemplating on Him, the karma which has not started to take effect, and the karma which is going to take effect, and the present karma which has already started giving result, all the three kinds of karma will be burnt like dust particles in the fire. Not only Mahabali was blessed with the grace of the Lord but he had the greatest fortune of having the Lord Himself as his doorkeeper in his kingdom in the netherworld and also was promised the status of Indra later. 160. oorjithaH Endowed with strength. Oorja means strength. The Lord is oorjithaH because he pervaded the whole Universe.Oorja or balam is one of the six qualities of Bhagavan. 161.atheendhraH Though the younger brother of Indra He excels Indra by His Lordship and glory. When Indra forgot this he was reminded of it as in Krishnavathara when Indra, angered by Krishna stopping the Indrapooja, learnt his lesson when Krishna held up the Govardhana mountain. The mind is termed as Indra along with the senses, in philosophy and hence the Lord is atheendhra means that He is atheendriya and also beyond the grasp of the mind. Manas is considered as the sixth indhriya. 162. sangrahaH samyak grhyathe . He is grasped by all easily with devotion. Which shows His soulabhya. Also the word can be derived as sarvam grhyathe. Since He is the self of all He unites all by controlling all activities , thoughts and attributes of all. 163. sargaH He is the creation, sarga aswell as the creator being both the cause and the effect. He also creates HImslf as He had said in the Gita 'sambhavaami aathmamaayayaa.' 164. Dhrthaahmaa Dhrtham sarvam aathmanaa, the supporter of the universe. 165. niyamaH sarvam niyaamayathi- He is the connroller of everything. 166. YamaH The ruler. Yamayathi ithi yamaH. The Upanishad says, yah aathnmanah antharah thishTan aathmaanam yamayathi,' who is inside the indidual self and rulea it. He ia also the Yama as the annihilater.
