Guest guest
Dear all, I wanted to send this yesterday on Guruvayur Ekadasi day. But I think Lord wants it to be sent only today. Once Narada Maharshi went to Kailasam. So Lord Siva and Shri Parvathy told Naradji to ask for a desired boon. Naradaji told them that he would be very happy to know about how Ekadashi vratham came into existence. So Lord Paramashiva told Naradaji: " Hae Narada! I will tell the story as exactly told by Srikrisha Bhagavan to Yamadharmaraaja. " This is described in Padma Purana. In Krutha yuga, there was a raakshasan or demon called Muran who terrorized all Devas and good people. Devaas came to Vishnu Bhagavan for help. Vishnu Bhagavan immediately called Garuda and flew with him to fight against Muran. The fight was severe and long. After several days Vishnu Bhagavan acted as if he was very tired and went to a cave called Simhavathi in the Badari mountains. Then He slept and immersed in His yoganidra. Murasura ran after Bhagavan and entered the cave to kill Him. By the time Mura was about to use his sword on the sleeping Bhagavan, a beautiful, young woman emerged from Bhagavan's body. She had all the divine weapons and when Mura was about to use the Brahmaasthra on her, she effortlessly burnt him to ashes. When Bhagavan woke up from yoganidra, He saw this woman respectfully doing namaskaar to Him. Bhagavan named her Ekadashi and that was the eleventh day of the waning lunar fortnight or Krishna paksha in the month of Dhanu. Bhagavan proclaimed this day as Ekadashi day and told that devotees who observe fasting and prayers on this day will get salvation. This birthday of Ekadashi is called Utpathyekaadashi or Utpanna Ekadashi or Guruvayur Ekadasi. " Vrathaanaamapi sarvaeshaam mukhyamaekaadashi vratham " . Ekadashi is the most important vratham. After listening to the story, Naradaji gave his dakshina to the parents of the whole world by singing a beautiful bhajan about Vishnu Bhagavan and to his surprise both Lord Siva and Shri Parvathy joined him in singing the glory of Lord Guruvayurappan! Regards and prayers Savitri
