Dear all,

Why should we know about Kamsa Digvijayam? It is only to glorify the greatness of Krishna who defeated him effortlessly. Kamsa did everything he could to remain as the leader of the whole world. But Bhagavan took only a few hours to reach him and killed him instantly.

Kamsa was Kalanemi in his previous janma. Kalanemi was killed by Sudarshana chakram during the devasura fight. Shukracharya gave mrutha sanjeevani and brought him back to life. But he still wanted to fight with Vishnu Bhagavan. So Kalanemi did severe penance to propitiate Brahma. Brahma appeared and then Kalanemi asked Brahma: " Brahmaji, please give me another life in which I will not be killed by Vishnu or any devaas. " Brahma gave the boon. Kalanemi only specified that Vishnu or devas should not kill him. Bhagavan is so used to taking avathars and if Kalanemi's next incarnation turns out to be a villain, then Bhagavan will take the necessary avathaar to kill him. Brahma was confident of Bhagavan's endless powers.

Kalanemi was born as Ugrasena Maharaja's son and he was named Kamsa. When he became yuvaraja he started his journey for digvijayam or winning each and every country, not only under the sun but also in the whole universe. This included heaven. At the same time King Jarasandhan also had started digvijayam. When kamsa reached Jarasandha's country, he sent the most furious elephant Kuvalayapeedam to fight against Kamsa. Kamsa took the elephant in his hands hurled it and threw it with all force and it went and fell in the courtyard of Jarasandhan. Jarasandhan was impressed and surrendered to Kamsa. He adored Kamsa for his unmatching valour and gave his two daughters Asthi and Prapthi in marriage to Kamsa. (there is a story, not in Bhagavatham, in which it says that Asthi's permanent facial expression is like when we are about to sneeze and Prapthi's expression is like the expression soon after we sneeze!).

Next he defeated all boxing champions like Mushtika, Chaanoora etc and made them his followers. Then he went to Pravarshana where the monkey Dvividan was living. He defeated and made him his friend. In Rishyamookachalam he defeated Keshi and did sakhyam. Next he went to Mahendra parvatham where Parshurama was meditating. Parashuramam tested him by asking to hold and string the Vaishnava bow. Kamsa did it effortlessly. So he gave the bow to him and told him that only Vishnu Bhagavan's paripoorna avatharam would string the bow in his palace and then He would kill him. Until then Kamsa will be the leader of the world. Much later Kamsan did yaagam for this bow (dhanuryaagam) and invited Krishna by sending Akroora as the messenger. He forgot Parashurama's words and in inviting Krishna for dhanuryaagam, he was inviting his own death!

Then Kamsa defeated Akhaasuran, Arishtaasuran, Thrunaavarthan, Bakaasuran, Narakaasuran, Poothana and Baanasura and they all became his allies. With the support of all these strong and powerful kings, he attacked heaven and defeated devas and brought their simhasanam and came to Madhura and started his rule. He terrorized all devas, devotees and those who followed dharmic path. Even great sages and his own father Ugrasena was not spared.

As Brahma expected, when Adharma increased Bhagavan came to earth as Devaki and Vasudevar's eighth son, went to Gokulam and later to Vrindavanam. When Akroora came to take Him for the Dhanuryaaga, He was ready to end the tyranny of Kamsa. The greatest Digvijayi was no match for Lord Krishna and died in His hands just like any other Asura.
