Introduction.

Who is Manu ?

Dakshinamurthy Upanishad, which is one of the smallest Upanishads. 1. Indians use to include in our praathasmarana, the seven chiranjeevees who live for ever. They have attained immortality. They are Aswatthaama, Bali, Vyaasa, Hanuman, Vibheeshana, Krupa and Parasuramaa is. 2. Criteria for attaining this level of chiranjeevi (means ever living people) are explained in the dakshinaamurthy Upanishad. 3. Detailed description of the word

chiranjeevi is given in the beginning of the Upanishad, further importance of this status is described. 4. How to know the absolute truth about Lord Siva is explained further, the description extends to the knowledge of the atman . 5. How to meditate on Lord siva is explained and then comes the importance of Dakshinamoorthy. 6. Further the detailed description of the ashtaakshara ( eight letter names like om namo naaraayanaaya) navaakshara (nine letter names) dwaadasakshara (twelve letter name), chathurdasaakshara (fourteen letter names) are explained. 7. Then the description goes to manwanthara and manus. There are 14 manus who are the Lord of 14 manwantharas ( each manwanthara is 43,20,000 x 72 years).: manwanthara is the (duration of) the time which is 1/14 of a day of Lord Brahma .(the lord of creation) 8. Detailed description of the lords of each manwanthara is given in the last part of the Upanishad 9. With the prayer and adoration of lord Siva the Upanishad come almost to an end. 10 Finally the merits of learning this Upanishad are given.

Manu Smriti - Laws of Manu

Manu Smriti is one of the oldest and probably the most important of the smritis which contain the laws (conduct in life) that need to be followed in various orders of life and by persons of various tendencies (varnas).

Smritis mean "that which has to be remembered". Unlike the Vedas which are considered of divine origin, the Smritis are of human composition which guide individuals in their daily conduct according to time and place. They list the codes and rules governing the actions of the individual, the community, society, and the nation. They are also called Dharma Sastras or laws of righteous conduct.

Manu is considered a law giver in the Hindu tradition. Manu Smriti is one of the 18 Smritis. It is important to note that laws given by Manu, in Manu Smriti although followed in some form even today, are not considered divine, and may be modified by the society to keep up with the times. Indeed, it has been speculated that in its current form, Manu Smriti represents laws that have been added or modified throughout the history.

Manu smriti Will be Start on next part 1
