Although we were given the swara and the sahityam, there was no translation. I have looked online and elsewhere for a translation, but have not found one. I had been asking around a bit and have managed to get some idea of the first two verses. Then dear Balagopalji invited me to this group. The Lord does have His way of granting wishes. And I know that He wants me to be here with you and that is why I am here!!!!!!!!!!!! It is really a beautiful bhajan and I would like to have the translation. First and foremost, for myself, so I know what I am singing to Him:-), and for anyone who happens to be there, so they can read along and know what I am singing to Him. I understand that it was written by a gentlemen in South India who also wrote a number of other bhajans and then succumbed to a stroke which paralyzed him. If this is so, considering the beauty of the song, I can only believe that in his paralysis, he is in His Grace. If anyone knows his name, I would like to add it to the lyrics...and if anyone can help me translate some more of the words, I would be so very GRATEFUL... Jai Shri Krishna!!! I am a bit reluctant to characterize that He enters anything since He is everything already, so I would rather say that "In Your compassion You Graced me in the form of Guruvayurappa." Can anyone help clarifiy this for me? I am not a Sanskrit scholar and hence am not daring to say anything about the meaning of the poetry. But there may be some typos which might have escaped the typist. If I am wrong I would like to correct myself. Dhehi maam kaarunyam guruvayurappa. Is this not dehi maam? Guest guest Posted January 8, 2009 Report Share Posted January 8, 2009 Dear Shreedeviji: I have spent a good part of my day in tears: ....marvelling at finding not just someone to tell me who wrote the bhajan, but finding you and your blessed husband... .... listening to Pahi Pahi in the audio section of the group... ....realizing how many more bhajans there are for me to explore and... ....overwhelmed by His Grace in bringing me here. I feel as if I have found another home. My other home is in PA, in Langhorne, about one mile away from the Chinmaya Mission-Kedar. This is where I learned the bhajan. Our teacher is Smt. Indu Janardanan, who also lives somewhere in NJ. She has a beautiful voice and unlimited patience, helping me learn the pronunciations. Each class I was able to attend, she would take a few minutes at the end to sing the bhajan or the geetam one more time for me so I could record it on a portable device and I could practice everything until the next class I could attend. I took classes for about two years, as much as I could. I have two sons, now ages 9 and 12, and their activities often precluded my attending class every week. Once I began singing kirtan before Rudrabishekam and at a local yoga studio, I had time constraints which required me to make choices of what to practice. I chose kirtan, thinking that in doing so I was sacrificing the development of my voice and skills I would have gained through continued carnatic training, but He was calling to me to sing kirtan, so I did. While my voice has not developed in that fashion, it has developed in other ways, and I am still in wonder that I can sing at all. I have extensive musical training, and played piano and violin as a young adult, but I never was much of a singer. But He has filled me with the desire to sing and I feel blessed every time I open my mouth to sing, even though I sound very Western in my vocal timbre, so do be prepared for that:-) I have a channel on youtube with some videos on it. The quality of the videos is limited, by my ability to take them, to transfer them to the computer and by my software. I will be getting better software and I am hoping to improve as time goes on but in the meantime... http://www.youtube.com/user/omshaantih Jaya Radha Madhava described in Shriyah-karam is there. That one came out best because He personally produced it as you know from Shriyah-karam... And Pahi Pahi is also there, in two parts. One night when I was singing it upstairs, it kind of turned itself into Hare Krishna at the end, so I hope your husband won't mind that I put them together:-) Oh, and I sing it more as a kirtan then as complete verses. One more thing...it was the first time I sang it with the group and I forgot the words that night, so you will notice that I do not finish that line and just move on!!! The lighting is really bad, but I do believe the essence still comes through so until I get something better to put up, these provide people with some idea of my kirtan and the ability to listen and learn if they want to come out. There are just a handful of American folks who come but they come on a regular basis. The Lord Shiva bhajans are also there so that I can direct some of the people who regularly come to puja to them and they can learn the bhajans which I sing.
