amrthaamSu means moon. Amrthasyaamsavah yasya sah, one who has rays of nectar. pushNAmi caushadhIh sarvAh somo bhUtvA rasAtmakah, says the Lord in the Gita."I nourish the medicinal herbs by being the moon, full of life giving essence." Amrtha is the life giving essence meant here. amSu meaning ray. The Lord being the creator of the moon He is called amrthaamSu udhbhava, as declared in the upanishat, chandrmaa manaso jaathaH, the moon was created from His mind.

286. bhaanuH

bhaathii ithi bhaanuH. The one who shines. That is the reason the sun is called bhanu and the Lord is bhaanu because He is the lustre behind the sun.

287. sasabindhuh

The rooDi or well known meaning of the word is moon. SaSa is a rabbit and bindhu is a dot.So it means the moon which has spot in the form of rabbit on its face. But SaSa also means pluthagathi, jumping (that is why the rabbit is called so) or round movement and bindhu is derived from the root bidh to break. Hence SaSa bindu denoting the Lord means that He denies or desowns those with crooked conduct, that is , swerving away from the right path. Taken to mean round movement, He is the Lord of those with round movement meaning the planets, which meaning is inkeeping with the previous namas.

288. sureSvaraH

Ra means dhaana or giving and sura is derived as Sobhanam dhadhaathi, gives good things. The devas are called sura because they give the auspicious things to those who propitiate them. The power to give these are vested with them by the Lord Hence He is the master of devas, suresvara.

289. oushaDham

The Lord is the oushaDham, medicine for the ills of samsara. Kulasekhara azvar says in Mukundamaala,

vyaamohaprsamoushaDham munimanovrtthipravrtthyoushaDham

dhaithyendhraarthikaroushaDham

thrijagathaam sanjeevanaikoushaDham

bhakthaathyanthahithoushDham

bhavabhayapraDhvamsanaikoushaDham

SreyaH praapthikaroushaDham

piba manaH SreekrshnadhiyoushaDham

Oh mind, drink the elixir, called Sri Krishna which removes all delusions, motivates the minds of sages, is painful to the head of asuras, the life-giver of the three worlds, most beneficial for the devotees, destroys the fear of samsara and provide all good results

290. jagathaH sethuH

sinaathi, baDhnaahi ithi sethuH, that which binds, meaning a bridge. The Lord is called the bridge of the world, jagathah sethuh because He is the binding force of the universe. The Lord says in the Gita, `mayi sarvam idham protham soothre maniganaa iva.' "All this is strung in Me like the beads in a string."

Brhadaranya Upanishad says,

eshahsetuh vidharaNa

eshAm lokAnAm asambhedAya - 6.4.22

He is the bridge that holds all the worlds so that they do not fall into disorder as otherwise there will be chaos.

291. sathya Dharma paraakramaH

One of true valour based on dharma. The dharma here means the anantha kalyanaguna of the Lord such as vatsalya ,kaarunya, swamithva, souseelya, soulabhya etc. these dharmas are sathya, true, meaning that He never swerves from them..So also His valour is sathya, infallible.
