Dear all,

This is another story about Vasishta's greatness. Vasishta Muni was a realized soul and never wasted his tapasshakthi or power of penance in taking revenge and cursing people. No wonder he became the Guru of even Lord Rama and advised Yogavaasisshtam to Lord Rama for our sake. Lord Rama did not need that advise and he took the advice in the form of Vasistha's most ardent disciple for the humanity's sake.

As mentioned in the previous post, Viswamitra was known as Rajarshi and he wanted to become Brahmarshi and he did lot of severe penance for that. But Vasishta, the most respected of all saptharshis did not accept Viswamitra as Brahmarshi because he knew that in spite of Viswamitra's power of penance he was arrogant and proud of his achievement. Vasishta wanted to remove that negative quality from his mind before accepting his greatness.

But Viswamitra did not understand Vasishta's good intention and was very angry at Vasishta for not accepting him as Brahmarshi. One day he was so angry that he wanted to even kill Vasishta. That a was a full moon night and Vasishta Muni and his wife Arundhathi Devi were sitting just outside their hermitage enjoying the beauty of Prakruthi Devi drenched in the beautiful full moon light. Viswamitra was hiding near a bush not far from Vasishta Muni and Arundhathi Devi and was aiming an arrow to kill Vasishta. Then he heard Vasishta saying to his wife: " Arundhathi, how beautiful and heaven-like is this night! I can compare the beauty of this moonlight only to the fame of the great Brahmarshi Viswamitra. His fame is now spread like this pure and magnanimous moon light " .

Viswamithra could not believe his ears and he was delighted to hear Vasishta Muni mentioning him as Brahmarshi. He felt very guilty for misunderstanding such a great Maharshi and immediately went near them and fell prostrate at their feet. He apologized for his arrogance and prayed for both Vasishata's and Arunudhathi Devi's blessings.

Vasishta said: " Brahmarshi Viswamitra, now you have become a brahmarshi who is a personification of all satwa gunas like Bhagavan Himself. May Bhagavan bless you to remain as a humble servant of Him " .
