Travellogue - part two. On Dec 23rd, our wedding anniversary day, we went to Guruvayoor. However, my husband was not able to come as he had left Kerala in a week. My mother in law came with me and as she had to return immediately we had a darshan as soon as we reached there, in time for Deeparadhana. He was as aalilakannan sucking his toe. My brother in law and family reached there from Ernakulam. Their marriage was also on the same day from the same place - in front of Kannan. After they came, we - myself and my kids - were lucky to have another darshan. As our programs were decided in the last minute, we couldnt get rooms in any hotel near to temple and we got in Nandanam KTDC which is near to Parthasarathy temple - a blessing in disguise. My sister in law and myself decided to go to Parthasarathy temple the next day. Morning, we reached the temple. Most of you might have gone to this temple, for those who have not gone, please make it next time, it is such a beautiful temple. Moreover, visit to Guruvayoorappan is considered full only after a visit to Parthasarathy. He is really as Parthasarathy, a chariotter, and the Srikovil is in the form of charriot, with 2 charriot wheels and 2 horses on either side of the Srikovil. It is said that Adi Sankara got the idol used to be worshipped by Kunti Devi from Ganga. Vishnu appeared in front of him in viswaroopam and asked Sankaracharya to make a temple near Guruvayoor. The temple is a very nice one. After visit to Thiruvenketachalapa thy, which is a few minutes and railway cross away and then to Mamiyoor, we returned to Guruvayoor. It was about time for uchapooja, but my brotherin law wanted to return after darshan. I wanted to stay and be there for uchapooja, anyway, we went inside and there was Kannan wearing a mundu and smiling. When we came out, they had already put the pattu for nedyam. Hence, we decided to stay there and go after uchapooja. We entrusted kids with my brother in law and we ladies went again for the darshan - the first time I was seeing him dancing on Kaliya. It took our breath away - as usual. With our hearts filled with happiness we returned from Guruvayoor. Our next part of pilgrimage with my sister in law was to Thirumandamkunnu. My sister in law wanted to go to Poonthanam Krishna temple especailly after seeing Guruvayoorappan serial in Soorya TV. We went there also. The man at the counter told us that if we had prayed for offerings in Guruvayoor temple, we could do it in Poonthanam Krishna temple, but if we have made offerings for Poonthanam Krishna temple, it had to be done there and should not be done in Guruvayoor. the place where Poonthanam used to do namaskharam is marked there. It is also a very beautiful temple. After visit to thali Siva temple and again to Bhagavathy temple, we returned. Though it was mangalya pooja day in Bhagavathy temple, we could do the darshan nicely. Lots of people have come for mangalya pooja. Mangalya pooja is done for marriage, as the name suggests. 3 poojas are to be done, one in a year. By the third year, it is believed that the couple can go together for the pooja. Evening, we went to Kadampuzha temple. We started a little early. As it was Laksharchana we couldnt do muttarukkal at that time, we entrusted it there and had darshan. We proceeded to Thirunavaya Navamukunda temple. The person in the counter told us the importance of pitru bali in the temple. The temple is in the banks of Bharathapuzha. Across the river is an idol of Bhrama, though no pooja is done there, and a little further is Siva temple. Hence, the trimoorthys are coming in a line and considered auspicious for after death rituals. This temple was also constructed by Adi Sankara. 8 times he fixed the idol, but all the 8 times, the idol was washed away by the river. Adi Sankara thought, if it was because he walked and fixed the idol, the 9th time, he went on his knees and fixed the idol and that stayed. As it was the 9th idol, it is called Navamukunda. The poojari told us the story of Markandeya. He, on knowing that his death time is approaching, prayed to NavaMukunda, but by the time Yama came to take him. Markandeya had to pray to Siva and for him to go fast to the nearby Siva temple (now Tuprangode), the back door of sanctum sanctorum was opened. As soon as Markandeya left, the door was closed and it has not been opened since then. After deeparadhana in Navamukunda temple, we went to Tuprangode Siva temple. The poojari there completed Markandeya story. Markandeya came running in search of the Sivalinga there, but the huge peepel tree blocked his way. On his cries for Siva, the peepel tree went apart to two sides and he could run in between them. One can see two huge peepel trees on either side of the entrance. By the time Markandeya embraced Sivalinga, Yama threw his rope which tied Markandeya and Sivalinga. An angry Siva emerged, He took three steps (there are three small temples for that) and hit Yama with His shoolam. He washed the shoolam in the nearby pond (one can see that pond on the left side a little away from the entrance) and sat there. He blessed Markandeya. Those days, the place was used by sanyasis for meditation and Siva in the form of a Sanyasi told another one to build a temple there and went for bath from which He didnt come back. The other Sanyasi understood that was Siva and built the temple there. It is very auspicious to pray for aayus in this temple, especially for children. As it was late, we returned. 2 days later, we went to Aalathiyur Hanuman Kavu, which is very near to Tuprangode. As the avil nivedyam takes long time, the person in teh counter suggested us to have darshan in other nearby temples and come back. We went to Chamravatoom Ayyappa temple. The temple is in teh middle of Bharathapuzha, but since there is no water in the river these days, one can easily go through the river, a way has been built. The temple is surrounded by river. 2 years back, the whole area was flooded after heavy rains, and Thantri had to go in small boat for the pooja. We went to Garudan kavu nearby and returned to Hanuman kavu, again had darshan. On 1st, after my husband came, we again went to Kottakkal, as we had given for vilakku in Lord Viswambhara temple. 2nd was vilakku in Siva temple near to my in laws house and 3rd we returned. We could do all these thanks to God, as I was travelling with my 5 and half year son and 1 and 4 month old daughter. Even while we were travelling like that, we never had to break any journey, due to any ill health of children or any thing. And the astonishing part was that we never planned any of these visits and everything came on its own. God has his own ways. Sorry if I bored you all with my travel details. But I felt to share it with you all. Jai Sree Krishna Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Invite them now.
