Guest guest
Hare Krishna Joyce Prabhu,"Dandavat" means falling like a stick, "Pranam" means Obeisances. So Dandavat Pranams in short means that " I offer you my respectful obeisances". Sometimes, the devotees use "Please accept my humble obeisance" instead.Hope it is clear now.~Krishnadasa.--- On Fri, 1/16/09, Joyce <shaantih wrote:Joyce <shaantihRe: [Guruvayur] (unknown)/Vinodjiguruvayur Date: Friday, January 16, 2009, 12:02 AM Jai Shri Krishna!!!!! ! Guest guest
Dandavat Pranams to all!!! Yes, Krishnadasaji, it is getting more clear as time passes! Thank you for offering the translation for me. It fills my heart with so much gratitude to be in this group, where I can feel the presence of so much love for Him, and consequently, for each *other* and all *others.* I was just reading a post on another list which reminded me of a Papaji story about Ramana Maharshi... As I was reading to find the section I wanted to highlight for the other list, I had to stop and pause in the section where Papaji finds that after an entire lifetime of ardent devotion to Krishna, he no longer has the desire to chant the Name or engage in other spiritual practices. He goes back to the Maharshi to seek his advice on why this is so,,, the quote below is Maharshi's response to his query, using Papaji's method of travel to the ashram to illustrate his point... The train brought you to your destination. You got off it because you didn't need it anymore. It had brought you to the place you wanted to reach. Likewise with the bullock cart. You got off it when it had brought you to Ramanasramam. You don't need either the train or the cart any more. They were the means for bringing you here. Now you are here, they are of no use to you. That is what has happened with your chanting. Your japa, your reading and your meditation have brought you to your spiritual destination. You don't need them any more. You yourself did not give up your practices; they left you of their own accord because they had served their purpose. You have arrived.' http://www.omshaantih.com/Ramana/Stories/Papaji/Two_wings.htm I can honestly tell you that it is hard for me to imagine myself shutting up about my devotion:-) So I guess reading it literally, I have not arrived!!! But then, the way I see it...my singing is not an expression of my devotion for the purpose of bringing me to any spiritual destination.. it is an expression of my joy for where I am right now! It is also a way for me to serve Him by sharing His love and His glories with others Since I know it is He who inspires and guides my efforts, may He continue eternally to use me as an instrument of His devotion, so I can sing loud and clear for all to hear... Hare Krishna!!! And Pahi Pahi Gopa Bala Vasudeva Krishna:-) Swamiji just sent me this photo today from our Ayyappa puja, so I thought I would share it with you :-). I see that Shri Jagjit Singh and I have another thing in common besides our love for Him...we both have cute little double chins when we sing!!! Dasi Joyceie laala Giridhara.......OK, I think it is time to go night night now :-) Hari OM and away I go !!!...................................................... - Krishna Dasa guruvayur 01/16/2009 8:36 AM Re: [Guruvayur] (unknown)/Vinodji Hare Krishna Joyce Prabhu, "Dandavat" means falling like a stick, "Pranam" means Obeisances.
