Guest guest
Dear all, Abhinava Ajamila's plan of remembering Lord and chanting His naamam at the last moment of his life was not successful because he never practised remembering Lord. Bhagavan told in Bhagavad Gita " Anthakaale cha maameva smaran " meaning " you have to think of me (all your life and) also at the time of leaving this body " . That word cha has very deep meaning. Bhagavan could have said " anthakale maameva smaran " . He purposefully added that small word cha to tell us that we have to think of Him through out our life, and also at the time of death. And what is the upaayam or trick to be able to think of Him at the last moment of our life? All life we have to train ourselves to think of him or we should practice " Niranthara smarana " . Sree Ramakrishna paramahamsar advises us to imitate Bhaktha Prahlada and not Ajamila. He says " Imitate Prahlada and start remembering him from childhood. Incorporate Him in every event, every moment in your life " In Varaaha Puraanam, Varaaha Murthy assures that when His bhaktha or devotee who remembered and worshipped Him through out his life becomes unconscious or memory loss happens for any other reason, " Aham smaarami madbhakatham, nayaami parmaam gathim " meaning God himself will think of the bhaktha (instead of him thinking of Lord) and gives him paramagathi or moksham. What this means is remembering God at the time of death is essential to get moksham, but if a life long devotee fails to remember Him by any reason, instead of the devotee remembering Him, He will remember the devotee and never let the devotee go back in to the miserable cycles of birth and death. If the Lord thinks of us, what else do we need? Kanchi Chandrasekhara Sarasawthi Swamigal advises to think like this;. " when I am so healthy and now if I do not remember and worship you , how will I remember you when I am in my death bed when none of the senses are with me? Bless me to think of you continuously in my life- journey. I may not remember you in my last moments, but please remember me. In my death bed, so many people will surround me and say can you recognise me I am your daughter, son ,wife/husband etc. Similarly oh my Lord may you come in front of me and say I am your parama bandhu which will take me to paramapadam. " There is no specific time to think of Bhagavan. Bhagavan Himself says: " Thasmaad sarveshu kaaleshu " . or " Think of me all the time. Guest guest
Dear Savitriji,Thanks for sending this story in 2 parts and also explaining the concept to usso well. It cleared up a lot of doubts in my mind.I also pray to the Lord to bless me with the capacity to remember Him at the last moment in my life. But, better yet is to pray that He remembers me at the last moment. My grandfather had alzimers (sp?) at the end of his life. He was such a pious man andwas very devoted to the Lord and served everyone with love. I often wondered if he was able to think of the Lord at the last moment since he had completely lost his mind. Yourexplanation answers all these questions. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with all of us.With Love & Regards LakshmyOn Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 4:49 AM, Savitri Puram <savitriopuram wrote: Dear all, Abhinava Ajamila's plan of remembering Lord and chanting His naamam at the last moment of his life was not successful because he never practised remembering Lord. Guest guest
Dear Lakshmiji, It is very comforting to know that if we try our best to think of Him all our life, even if we are unable to think of Him at the last moment of our life, He will think of us. My mother was a very pious woman and was a great devotee of Krishna. She also was unconscious at the time of death and after reading the assurance from Bhagavan in Vamana Purana, I was very relieved. At this context, let me share what a great Bhaktha told me to do everyday. At the end of your everyday karma, that is, just before going to bed, it is very nice to read the 6th chapter, Virat Swaroopam of Naaraayaneeyam. Then we will remember Him at the end of all our karmaas or at the time of death. Even if we fail to remember, He will remember us! what else do we need? Guest guest
Dear Savitriji, Very nicely written as usual. surrendering to him all the time and repeating HIS name on every occasion is the only way for HIm to give Moksha .I am reminded of my late cousin who was a devout bhaktha. Hewas a very learned , and simple man, having learnt all the scriptures and was leading a very satwik life.At the last few years of his life, he developed alzeimer's disease and gradually forgot even his own children. But he used to repeat Lord's name all the time even when he was not able to get out of bed. I am sure he had mujjanmasukrittham ,and he cotinued to attain even in his present life. He passed away peacefullya few years ago. Thanky ou bery much for the narration. regards, Sreedevi Menon Om Namo Narayanaya --- On Mon, 1/26/09, Savitri Puram <savitriopuram wrote: Savitri Puram <savitriopuram[Guruvayur] Namasthe- Abhinava Ajamila 2Monday, January 26, 2009, 4:49 AM Dear all, Abhinava Ajamila's plan of remembering Lord and chanting His naamam at the last moment of his life was not successful because he never practised remembering Lord.
