Of the three sorrows known as thaapathrya, aadhidhivika is that resuting from external forces like asuras, demons natural calmities etc.which are not under human control. The previous nama purandhara shows the Lord as the protector from this kind of sorrow. The second one is aadhyaathmika, the sorrow resulting from one's own nature and doings. There are six kinds of sorrows listed as aadhyaathmika, called shad oormayaH, namely, hunger, thirst, melancholy, delusion, old age and death. A devotee becomes free from all these due to the grace of the Lord who says in the Gita, `yogakshemam vahaamyaham,' "I look after the welfare of my devotees." The third kind of sorrow is known as aadhibouthika, resulting from other beings sentient and insentient. The next two namas refer to the protection of the Lord from these. 340. thaaraNaH The Lord protects th devotees from the fear of other beings, sentient and insentient, that is from the sorrow known as aadhiboouthika. The word thaarana means the one who takes across. The Lord takes us across the ocean of samsara. 341. thaarah ThaaraH means bank. He is not only the one who tekes us across but He is also the bank across the samsara we have to reach. He is the goal as well as the means. 342. Soorah Victorious or all powerful. Soorayathi means goes everywhere, all pervading. 343. SouriH Soorasya gothraapathyam pumaan. The son of Vasudeva , who was the son of Soora. 344. janeSvaraH The Lord of all , janaanaam eeSvaraH 345. anukoolah koola means bank of a river or tank. anukoola means bound by the bank. Koolam anuvarthathe ithi anukoolaH. The Lord is bound by love and becomes anukoola favourable to His devotees. He got bound to the mortar and stayed there as though helpless. He even became a disciple of Ramanuja and did his bidding as vaduganambi in Thirukkurungudi. In the stories of the devotee- saints of Maharashtra, we read instances like Panduranga standing on a brick obeying the command of His devotee Pundarika where He still stands even now. He also became the servant of some like Gorakumbha. Thus there is no dearth of examples even in kaliyuga. 346. SathaavarthaH aavartha means revolving or repetition. The Lord is repeatedly creates, sustains and annihilates and He also controls and causes the cycles ot time, life and birth. In Gita the Lord says that He makes the people go round the cycle of karma as though mounted on a wheel through His maya.'bhraamayan sarvabhoothaani yanthraarooDaani maayayaa.' 347. padhmee The Lord has lotus, padhmam in His hand. Sankha chakra gadhaa padhma. padhyathe ithi padhma, meaning jnanam. He is also called Padhmee because like the lotus which stands in the water but is not associated with water the Lord is also not contaminatwed with the worls even though He pervades the whole universe. 348. padhmanibhekshaNaH He has lotus-like eyes. Lotus is not only cool and beautiful but also opens in the day and closes in the night. Likewise the eyes of the Lord closes towards evil doers and opens towards the good. ..
