Krishna returning from forest

Yasodha sees Krishna returning from the forest in the evening after tending the calves. She admires the appearance of Krishna but at the same time regrets having sent him.

Yasodha sent him after putting the thread into his ears to make the holes grow so that she could later put on earrings. But Krishna had taken off the thread on one ear and had inserted the flower. Yasodha admires the dress of the blue hued Krishna , like the rain-bearing cloud,, though she herself must have dressed him, seeing how well it suited him, the yellow silk garment and the wide cloth tied around it and the pearl necklace on his neck. She considers herself blessed to have given birth to such a son.

Periazvar now resents as Yasodha for ending Krishna to tend the cattle according to the custom of yadhavas., saying that no one could be more hardhearted than herself. But being azvar he could not help addressing Krishna as the Lord of Srirangam, between the two streams of the river Kaveri , abounding in flower gardens, and as the slayer of demon Madhu, Madhusudhna and as Kesava.

Yasodha has kept ready the water for washing the body of Krishna which was covered with the dust raised by the hooves of the calves when he ran behind them to control them from running here and there and tells him that his father was waiting to take food with him.

Yasodha sees Krishna emaciated with his feet and eyes red with heat and lamented that he went without taking the umbrella, sandals and the flute which she kept ready for him. Azvar calls him as the lord of seven hiils, VEnakatava and describes him as a bull fierce and ready to fight and that He is the Lord who loves His devotees.

Azvar as Yasodha refers to the blowing of panchajanya by Krishna during the Mahabhartaha war that made the enemies tremble with fear and wonders that now he appears as an ordinary cowherd boy. Similarly the Lord of Seetha Himself is now manifested as a young boy. The lotus-eyed Lord is now going to the forest with the cowherd boys , forgetting his short sword and head -gear in his hurry to join the other boys Such is His leela.

Yasodha says that when Krishna without any fear went and fought with the fierce kaliya, she was alive and not gave up her life in anxiety. Krishna, she said, did everything to please Kamsa indeed , by letting himself into all dangerous situations. But Azvar could not help remembering that He was the one who wielded the discus in His hand.

Yasodha further refers to the exploits of Krihna in killing the asuras who came, like dhenukasura, playfully and says that all who wish harm for her son will only meet with similar fate. Azvar further says that He was the one who incarnated as varaha, mathsya etc. implying that the killing of asuras is a child's splay indeed for Him.

Azvara as Yasodha expresses her concern that she was not capable of feeding Krishna because she heard that he ate all the food offered to Indra, referring to the Gocardhana episode.

Next Yasodha appears to be an ordinary mother and tells Krishna .that the seventh day from then is his birthday and she is preparing for thirukkalyanaceremony and he need not go out for tending the calves but get adorned with ornaments and stay at home.

Next Periazvar describes the state of mind of the gopis who saw Krishna returning from forest.
