Once a hermit went to the palace of a king to beg for alms. The guards directed the hermit to the prayer room where king was doing prayers. The hermit waited outside. The king ended his prayers with the usual request for prosperity - money, riches, fame, forturne. The hermit felt he has come to a wrong place and walked away when the king came and saw him leaving. The king wondered and asked the hermit as to why he was leaving without even speaking to the king. To which the hermit answered that he came to beg for money, but when he heard the king begging for money and riches from God, he changed his mind. Why should he beg from one who himself is a beggar. The hermit decided that if he must beg, it should be from God.
