The milk of cows and other animals, becomes curd on the following day or immediately. But the milk of the milky ocean has now undergone any change even now.

gavadheenaam payaH–milk of cows etc. gavaadhi includes buffaloes, goats, camels etc.

anyedhuH -the other day or following day.

sadhyaH – immediately , that is the same day.

jaayathe dhaDhi- becomes curd.

ksheeraabDheH thu- but of the milk of the milky ocean

adha api- even now

na mahathaam vikrthim- no great change

krthaH- not been done

The milk added with buttermilk changes to curd the next day or left as it is it undergoes change and become spoilt. But the milk of the milky ocean left as it is for so long had not undergone any change even now. The author of this sloka expresses wonder by this statement. Why is it so?

It is because the Lord Hari who is the preserver of the whole universe sleeps on it. What can be a more effective preserving agent than Him! Not only it does not change being as it is but also when it was churned. It was because the Lord was inside as the mahakoorma preserving its spurity.
