E lone is born by whom his clan reaches height of glory. samsare- in the cycle of births and deaths parivarthini- which is revolving ko- who mrthaH – being dead na jaayathe- is not born saH jaathaH – he is born( could be called really born or a son) yena- by whom jaathena – when born ( as a son) vamSaH – his clan yaathi - goes to samunnathim – height of fame. Millions are born and millions die and are reborn and this cycle is repeated for ever. He alone can be called to be rightly born or he alone can be called a son (jaathaH can mean a son also) by who his clan reaches the height of fame. The same idea is expressed by ThirvaLLuvar in thirukkuRaL as thOnRiR pugazodu thOnRuga ahdhilaar thOnRalin thOnRaamai nanRu. One should be born with fame. Otherwise it is better not to be born. This is not a sweeping statement as it looks. The purpose of life is to leave this body as a better person than when you came into it. It may be fame of any sort attained in this life or merely to get a name that he is a good person. Good reputation is far better than fame due to skill or accomplishments. Another kuraL makes this clear. Magan thandhaikku aattRum udhavi ivan thandhai ennOttRaan kol enum sol The best service to a father by the son is to make everyone say "What merit his father has accumulated to have such a son"
