397.

raamaH

 

ramyathe (svaroopaguNaath) ithi raamaH. One

who pleases everyone with his form and attributes. Also ramanthe asmin (yoginaH)

ithi raamaH. The yogis revel in the Lord.. The name rama is equal to all the thousand names

of the Lord as maintaine by Lord Siva himself. "Sreeraamaraamaraamethi rame

raame manorame sahasranaama thaththulyam raamanaamavaraanane" The reason

for this is given beautifully by Thyagaraja in his krthi `evarani

nirNayinchiriraa.' He says that the letter `ma,' ,the life force of the manthra

`om namasivaya,' without which the manthra loses its meaning and similarly the

letter `ma' from the manthra `om namo

narayanaya,' are taken to form the name of Rama

 

398.

viraamaH

 

viramanthe

asmin ithi. All the worlds merge

into Him. Rama was the resort and refuge of all in Ramayana.

virathaH

 

vigatham

ratham asya ithi. Rathi denotes enjoyment. All sensual enjoyments were gone fro

Him. Rama says to Kaikeyi who seemed to doubt whther he would obey the order of

the king, "rshibhiH thulayam maam vidDhi, know me to be equal to the sages."

maargaH

 

He

is the means and the goal. The Lord is the upaaya and upeya. mrgayathe anena

ithi maargaH. That by which something is sought or searched, `marge

anveshaNe.' Brahman, Naryana of

visishtadvaita is that which is sought after. `aThaatho brahmajijnaasaa,' says

the vedantha suthra.

 

401.

neyaH

praapyaH.

The word means one who is

led. nethum arhah The as Rama and Krishna allowded himself to be led by

the devotees.They followed the gurus and rendered themselves vulnerable to do

the bidding of the devotees.The word also is explained as niyoga arhathvam,

that is the capacity to command.

nayaH

 

Rama

led everyone towards the path of dharma. nayathi ithi nayaH.

 

403.

anayaH

 

No

one is His master , nethaa. Even when he was doing the work of

His devotees He was in full command of the situation.

 

404.

veeraH

 

The

valiant. veeraNa also means kampanam shaking. Rama makes his foes tremble.

 

405.

Sakthikmathaam SreshThaH

 

The

best of the powerful. In Gita the Lord says `raamaH Sasthrabhrthaam aham,'

"I am Rama among those who wield weapons."

 

406.

dharmaH

 

It

is said that ramo vigrahavaan dharn maH, Rama was rthe embodiment of

dharma. He says that he wi relinquish Seetha and lakshman even but not dharma.

DharmavidhutthamaH

 

The

best among those who knew dharma. Rama not only adhered to dhrama but dispensed

knowledge of dharma,jnanadhaatha and upadheshta, taught dharma to others and explained dharma,
