The horrendous attempt on the Sri Lankan cricket team is now a thing of the past. Two weeks into the incident, the Sri Lankan cricketers have now found a new direction to be relaxed, calm and still be dynamic and alert. This was made possible for the cricketers with the Sudarshan Kriya healing breath technique, meditation and Yoga as taught in Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living Program. On the instructions of the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, world renowned neurologist and Director General, Institute of Sports Medicine Dr. Geethanjan Mendis organised the Art of Living stress and trauma relief program for the Lankan cricketers in Colombo. He said “Relaxation and recovery is an integral part of a sportspersons lifestyle, it is techniques like the Sudarshan Kriya breathing technique that gives them the energy to bounce backâ€.Dr. Mendis was thankful that the Art of Living program taught in over 140

countries was also made available to the cricketers.Designed by world renowned spiritual leader His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Sudarshan Kriya healing breath technique cognized by him has benefited millions of people across the world giving them peace of mind, emotional stability, better health, memory and concentration; clarity of mind, confidence and more joy in life.Swami Sadyojathah senior international Art of Living teacher delivered the program to the Lankan cricketers in Colombo and ably assisted by teacher Vidyut Udiaver based in the city.

TECHNIQUES Swamiji said “Stress-relief techniques like Sudarshan Kriya are available to everyone irrespective of nationality, language, religion or professionâ€. He added “We are very soon to deliver these trauma-relief techniques to IDPs (internally displaced persons) in Vavuniya and Trincomalee through our trained local Sri Lankan Art of Living teachersâ€.Kumar Sangakkara the dynamic and optimistic new captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team said that he felt relaxed and calm in just two sessions of the Sudarshan Kriya breathing. He added that it was a really pleasant experience and plans to follow it up. Vice-Captain Muttiah Muralitharan cheerfully expressed a new calmness after the breathing technique and looked forward to keeping up with the practice.

EXPERIENCE Sharing his experience Mahela Jayawardena the former captain said that it was healthy and very helpful to learn Sudarshan Kriya. Other star players Chaminda Vaas, Dilhara Fernando, Tilakaratne Dilshan, Malinga Bandara, Chamara Kappugedara and Paranavitana participated and experienced the healthful benefits of the program.Tilan Samaraweera and Ajantha Mendis who were earlier in the hospital plan to do the Art of Living program very soon. The team manager Brendon Kuruppu and cricket analyst Wing Commander Nalin also articulated the great benefits they received from the program.
