Guest guest
Dear all, The humiliated and humbled Viswamitra did severe penance to Shiva to become as powerful as Brahmarshi Kulapathi Vasishta. Siva was pleased and gave him a lot of divine astras. Since Visvamithra was still not free of his rajogunas Lord Shiva granted him only Rajarshipadam. (A Brahmarshi is one who has nirguna brahmajnaanam, or the knowledge of Brahman achieved through penance.) Viswamitra came back to fight with Vasishta and seize Nandini. Vasishta dissolved the power of all the divine astras sent by Viswamitra with his Brahama Danda. Brahma danda is the stick or staff carried by sages and in need they can use it as a weapon by sending their enormous power of tapas or penance through that. All of Viswamitra's weapons rendered powerless against Brahmadanda. Again Viswamitra realized that his power of penance is no match to Vasishta's power. He went back and did severe penance to increase his power. Meanwhile another story happened. King Kalmashapada and Vasishta's son Sakthi had a silly fight. They were travelling in opposite directions in a narrow path in the forest and neither of them would give way to the other. King hurt Sakhti by whipping with his lash and Shakthi cursed the king to become a demon or rakshasa. Viswamitra happened to see this fight and decided to take advantage of this situation to take revenge on Vasishta. He ordered another demon to enter into Kalmashapada's body and made Sakthi's curse true. Demon turned Kalmashapada immediately charged at Shakthi and ate him. Also he killed all the brothers of Shakthi. So all sons of Vasishta was devoured by this demon- turned King Kalmashapada. Exactly that is what Visvamitra wanted.
