1. Eight-day Bhagvatham Saptha starts May 6, 2009

The eight-day annual Bhavatham Saptha will be held at the Puthur Shiva Temple in

Perintalmanna from May 6, 2009. There will be discourses, dramas, and chanting

in praise of Lord Vishnu. Prasadam will be distributed daily.

It is said participating in the Saptha will fill us with love and devotion, take

us closer towards God, and ultimately free us from this cycle of birth and

death.

In a few days, we will reach one million (10 lakhs) japam. It will be quite a

feat!!! When we started the Koti Nama Japam 60 days ago, we wondered if anyone

would join us.

Not only were we surprised by the number of people who joined and sponsored the

101 Kodum (pot) Dhara (pouring of sanctified waters on the Shiva Lingam) every

month but also we were truly blessed by the high quality of devotees. The love,

devotion, and sincerity with which they offered their prayers to Lord Shiva and

Parvati every day has been an overwhelming experience for us.

Our promise to Lord Shiva and Parvati is to do 10 million (100 lakhs) japam. We

would like you to continue doing your japam and bring family and friends, if

they are interested. The peace and contentment the japam has brought cannot be

described in words. It has to be experienced. Our motto is peace in the world,

one person at a time!

3. One participant signs up 16 sponsors for the Kodum Dhara

One japam participant, who visited the Puthur Shiva temple in Perintalmanna,

Kerala recently, was so moved by his experience, that he went back to his

country of residence and signed up 16 of his friends for the 101 Kodum Dhara

every month.

No doubt, Puthur Shiva and Goddess Bhagawathi will bless him, but we would like

to thank him for his efforts. These 16 people do not have access to computers

and have never heard of the Puthur Shiva Temple. Thank you once again!

4. About the Puthur Shiva Temple in Perintalmanna, Kerala

http:// puthurshivatemple. blogspot. com (without the spaces)

The Sree Vellat Puthur Shiva Temple is only an hour away from the famous

Guruvayoor Temple in Kerala, yet very few people know about this very powerful

Shiva temple nestled, almost hidden, in a tiny town called Perintalmanna, in the

Western Ghats in Kerala.

Astrological recordings found at the site show that the temple was consecrated

by yogis over 1500 years ago and the Sakti of Goddess Parvathi is hidden in the

Siva Lingam. The recordings show that the deity should be worshiped as Lord

Parama Siva and that all those who worship at this temple will attain supreme

bliss.

Those who worship here attest to the intense power of the deity to cure mental

disorders, ward off dangers, and bless devotees with a smooth run of life in the

family.

The great sanctity of the Siva Lingam here is that the Lord is associated with

his aspects i.e. Dakshinamurthy, Kirathamurthy and Sankaranarayana murthy, the

murtis of whom are installed in the temple as upa devatas and in shrines of

their own.

The other upa devatas in the temple are Ganesha, Subramanian, Sasthavu and Naga

prathista.

Lord Krishna

Previously Lord Krishna as Venugopalamurthy was worshipped in the temple as an

upadevata. In 1978, an Ashtamangalya Prasna conducted in the temple found that

Venugopalamurthy (Krishna) should be worshipped treating the lord as the second

main deity of the temple.

Accordingly a new temple for Venugopalamurthy (Krishna) was constructed in the

temple compound in 1980. The murti of Venugopalamurthy( Krishna) is beautiful.

At the time of Deeparadhana the smiling face of the Lord is bedecked with sandal

paste and crowned with a diadem and the Lord reveals his blissful nature and

devotees feel his grace. This may be the reason the temple has been attracting

people from around the world.

Sree Thirumadham Kunnu Bhagavathi

Another specialty of this temple is the presence of Sree Thirumadham Kunnu

Bhagavathi. The Goddess is so beautiful and powerful that she is to be

experienced. As an act of reverence to the Bhagavathi, a Tantric ritual known

as " Kalamezhuthu and Kalampattu " for Sree Bhadrakali is conducted in this temple

for more than 90 days ending with the Thalapoli Festival on Karthika day in the

month of Meenom every year.

By worshipping the main deities, Lord Siva and Venugopalamurthy( Krishna), and

the Upa Devatas in the temple, the devotees can lead a peaceful and contented

household life free from worries and troubles
