Guest guest Posted June 2, 2009 Report Share Posted June 2, 2009 Vedant Desika describes a guru in his nyasa vumSathi in the first sloka sidDham sarvasampradhaaye sThiraDhiyam anagham Srothroyam brhamanishTam satthvasTham sathyavaacham samayaniyathayaa saaDhuvrtthyaa sametham dambaasooyaadhimuktham jithavishayigaNam dheerghabanDhum dhayaalum skhaalithve Saasithaaram svaparahithaparam dhesikam bhaashNuH eepseth The one who wishes to elevate himself shoud try to get a guru who is established in good tradition, of firm intellect, wellversed in vedas and sastrhas, pssesses brahmajnana, endowed with sathva guna, true in his words, has good conduct in accordance with dharma, free from ostentation and envy, has conquered his senses, a eternal realtive, full of mercy, corrects when the disciple goes astray iand ntent on the good for him and others . Actually if one is genuinly interested in findng a proper guru and prays to Lord He Himself will send one at proper time.I can declare this to be true from my own experience.
