Guest guest
Hari-Om ======= I overlooked one temple ,which though not very important, has an interesting story behind it. This is a small hill temple situated about 7 km away on the Trissoor- Triprayar (via Palakkal) route. At the Palakkal junction another road to the right leads to Ammadom and farther. If one takes this route for a km or so a subsediary road on the right leads to this hill temple. It is not very far from the Palakal junction. Ask anyone at Palakkal and they will be pleased to give directions. The place is called Ayyunnu ( anju kunnu or 5 hills ) . There are 5 hills in that place and the temple is on top of the tallest hill. Legend has it that the Pandavas on their numorous journeys during their Vanawasa, rested there which then was a jungle. Panchali was tired and said she would very much like to take a bath. Looking around, there was no trace of any water nearby ; no river or pond. Then Bhimsen suggested that he would dig a pond. The other brothers joined him and a very large pond took shape. Needless to say, Panchali was very pleased and had a prolonged dip in the cool water. The Pandava brothers while digging removed the soil and each of them threw it into different directions . The 5 hills represent the soil removed by each of the 5 Pandava brothers , the biggest hill being that of Bhima. After bath Panchali wanted to pray and so they built a temple on top of the tallest hill. THere is also a deep well within the temple prescinct. A thirumeni used to conduct daily poojas. jai shree krishna ! Achuthan Nair guruvayur , " chirattapuram " <anair1101 wrote: > > There are several important temples in and around Trissoor. Guest guest
Krishna Guruvayoorappa, Dear Devotees of the Lord, …museum having coconut with horns in the devaswam compound, Guruvayoor….. Bhaktha Upama. Menon.. This reminds me of a short story read recently from ‘Thulasee Dalangal’, a Tamil book of a collection of similar beautiful stories by H.H. Sri Muralidhara Swamiji of Madhurapuri Ashram, Madras (www.namadwaa.org and www.godivinity.org). The story goes like: Once there was a true devotee of Guruvayoorappan in a village near Guruvayoor. His only ambition in life was to live as a real devotee of Guruvayoorappan, doing whatever services he can, to Lord and to His devotees. His voice was sweet and melodious and with this gift of the Lord, he earnestly sang His Glories in front of the Lord and he spent money for the needs of poor devotees also. He had some coconut farms of his own. It was his custom every year to give a major portion of those coconuts to Guruvayoorappan. As usual, this time also he was carrying the coconuts in a sack to Guruvayoor. On the way, some robbers appeared in front of him suddenly and threatened that he should give all the coconuts to them. He told them that he was carrying it to Guruvayoorappan and that it was not right to ask those coconuts. In reply, those robbers asked him in a very sarcastic and ridiculous way, ‘ What !, are there any horns for these Guruvayoorappan’s coconuts ?” At that time the sac containing the coconuts torn away and strangely enough all the coconuts fell down from the sac were having horns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The robbers vanished into thin air. Even today we can see the coconut with horn at Guruvayoor. ‘Padaravindame Saranam, Guruvayoorappa Saranam.’ Submission: Pardon me for the poor translation and that too made with the help of someone near. mpr Thank you, Have a great day, mprnair, nairradhakrishnan. guruvayur [guruvayur ] On Behalf Of Upama.
