Hari Om !

Bannikoppa, a village 6 kms away from Shiggaon taluk in Karnataka has a lot of specialities.  It is a village which has no cock-a-doodle-doo or even a goat or sheep.  The 250 house hold village beliees that they should not rear domesticated livestock like sheep or goat neither poultry for traaditional reasons.   Legend has it that the Pandavas lived here for one year and since then no other animal than cows ar bred here.  They say, that when one tried to breed 15 fowl, they all soon died due to some rare disease.  Another villager tried o rear goats but the animals met the same fate.  The poojari of the only temple  of 5 pandavas, believes that the Pandavas were not particularly in favour of domesticating fowl.  The temple was built during British reign  which was named after the 5 brothers of Mahabarata.  The panchayat head believes that no other community can live here. It is surprising to note that many men here are called arjuna, nakula, sahadeva, dharmanna or bheemappa. (courtesy to TOI dt 13th July 2009)

Is it not interesting?

HARI AUM

Thank you very much JayasreeMenonji for the very

interesting information and ref. to the original TOI News Report:

Please Click here "for the original TOI News Report

– `Vegetarian' village in Haveri

district hails the Pandavas -

nbn"

)

This news item particularly

gives me GREAT PLEASURE: it disproves one of my favourite concepts. Yes, I meant "disproves" – not any typing

error. I believe, a DEVOTEE should

always be a TRUTH SEEKER, with out fear or favour: and a TRUTH SEEKER should

welcome `the truth' whether it proves or disproves his prevailing concepts.

I was having a concept that

Pancha Pandavas was only a Kavi Sankalpam (imagination of the poet-

author). The author would have

personified each of the five major characteristic qualities one Uthama Purushan

(ideal man) should have into each of those five characters. And actually Pandava was just one ideal man:

the archer (Arjun) in him won the princess Panchali, etc., etc.

This is real food for

thought: the five Pandav brothrs would have actually lived there for some time

and had impressed the local population or some great saints could have

succeeded in creating such a permanent impression on the local people on these

mythological heroes! Either way this is a very important piece of

information. Hope some of our

DEVOTEES, if found convenient, could visit this village and report back to our

Guruvayur Group – The Global Family of Guruvayur Devotees.
