What a beautiful and meaningful depiction!It depicts the exact condition of a Gruhastha and crying to Sri Guruvayurappan for Help!No wonder Viswakarma has sculptured this in two pillars (in the inner prakaram of Sri Guruvayurappan Temple) with Sriman Narayana in Anantha Sayanam,whereas he has devoted only one pillar for each of the other Avatharams! I was just working on something yesterday using this image. Although the Lord seems to have

the items in question in His hands, the message is the same...He is always with us, looking

[Guruvayur] Relationship between Devotee and God.

 

 

 

 

 

Dear friends and devotees, Bhakti is eternal. Let us know the relationship of the devotee and God from the discussion of two great Telugu poets. It is said that during a discussion between to great poets, the affection of God was proved in an incident which is reproduced here, along with an introduction, for your information: - In Andhra Pradesh, there were two great poets named Sri Pothanamatya and Srinatha. They two were brothers-in- law. Pothana had translated Bhagavatham of Maharshi Vedavyasa into Telugu poetry, which is the treasure for Telugu community, while Srinatha translated “Kasikhandam and Srungaranaishadam†into Telugu poetry, a treasure to Telugu literature. Srinatha having submitted his writings to the kings was well off, and his writings were called as “kaaSiikhanDamayah pinDam, naishadam vidwadoushadam†(Kasikhandam is an iron ball and Naishadam is the medicine for Pundits). Srinatha persuaded Pothana to give his Bhagavatham to the king to get money, instead of suffering from poverty. But Pothana wrote Bhagavatham and submitted to the feet of Lord Srirama, without accepting any remuneration from any body. He contented to work as a cultivator, with devotion to God. One day, Srinatha came to Pothana and wanted to read what he had written. At that time, Pothana was writing the topic “Gajendramoksham†of Bhagavatham. He narrated the poems which reads as: “Lord Srimannarayana after hearing the helpless and surrender prayers of the Gajendra (king elephant) to save him from the clutches of the crocodile, rushed up to the scene, with out taking Sankha, Chakra and Gada etc. and not even left the edge of sari of of Mahalakshmi in his hand and there by making Jaganmatha to run after Himâ€. On hearing this, Srinatha laughed and said to Pothana “If the lord comes without any weapon, how can he kill the crocodile and save the elephant? Is it not unnatural?†Pothana did not answer at that time and kept silent. After some time both of them went for meals. While taking meals, Pothana arranged to hide Srinatha’s son in a separate place and to throw a big stone into the well. Immediately Pothana’s son shouted that Srinatha’s son, while playing slipped and fell into the well. On hearing the shouting, Srinatha leaving meals, ran to the well and began to cry “My son had fallen into the well. Please saveâ€. Then Pothana asked him, “O Srinatha, what is the use of shouting, without bringing a rope or a ladder to get into the wellâ€. Srinatha got angry and said “When my son had fallen into the well, I am in panic. Why do you say like thatâ€. Then Pothana said “O Srinatha! Your son is safe. Do not worry. A few minutes back, you expressed the doubt, as to how the Lord can save the elephant without any weapons? As you have the affection towards your son, Srimannarayana has similar affection towards his Bhkthas. Can you understand now?†Srinatha, the great poet felt for his ignorance and prayed Lord for not understanding Him properly. Bhaktha to Lord is just like son to a father. You are blessed to work anything using the image.

Bhagavatham in Sanskrit written by Sage Vyasa was translated as it is into Telugu poetry by Bammera Pothana, which the entire Telugu community worships. There he has described about the Lords running to save the King elephant forgetting the weapons and said that Sankha and Chakra etc followed HIM. This might be to crystalise the love of Lord.

The picture shows as to how Lord is saving the elephant from the crocodile.
