" Hantha Bhagyam Jananaam " is the ending words of the first sloka of the first chapter (Dasakam) of Narayaneeyam of Melpathur Narayana Bhattatiri. Guest guest
Dear devotee of Sri Guruvayurappan,Hantha! Bhagyam Jananam! This is the last part of the fourth line of the first sloka of the first Dasakam of Sriman Narayaneeyam. Sri Bhattadri describes the Brahma-tatvam or the Parabrahmam in the first three lines and and then he exclaims that the Parabrahmam or Paravasthu or the Brahmatatvam which cannot be described by hundres of thousands of Nigamas, is verily present in the Form of Sri Guruvayurappan even for the simple,not-so-learned but very-much attached Devoteeto see for himself or herself!!How shall I describe the Bhagyam or Great luck of the Devotees! In another verse, he describes Him as the very Personification of the Punyam of all the Devotees! Poorna-punyavatharam!We all those belonging to this Holy Group too can describe this as a Satsangam! And therefore exclaim Hantha! BHAGYANAM Jananam!Dont we experience a feeling that we are visiting Sri Guruvayurappan's Temple! To the best of my limited knowledge, I have tried to explain. Hantha! Guest guest
My 2 cents: The last line is : Guru pavana purey, hantha bhagyam jananam. This translates roughly to - being able to visit the Lord in Guruvayoor is the biggest fortune of this lifetime. Another suggestion is to check out the full meaning the next time you get a chance to visit the Lord. Near where free prasadam is distributed (with a large mirror), is a stone on the wall with this sloka and its meaning clearly inscribed.
