Guest guest
Hari-Om NIVEDYAM ======== It is customary in hindu temples to prepare nivedyam nd offer it to the deity. It is part of the daily pooja. Once the the pooja and other rites are complete, the ambalavasi/ warrier takes the nivedyam home. Once long ago the melshanti of Guruvayoor temple had to go on an urgent personal business to a place few miles away. He could not avoid the journey but at the sme time there was noone present to whom he could delegate the day' duties. Having no alternative, he took a bold decision. He called his young son and instructed him to do the pooja for the day in his absence. The boy did not have full grasp of the rituals, still he agreed. He prepared the nivedyam , closed the sreekovil and started the pooja, Placing the nivedyam in front of the deity he asked the deity repetedly to consume it, but it remained intact. Little did he know that the deity does not hysically eat the nivedyam. Worried that his father on his return woud punish him if found that Bhagavan did not eat it, he started pleading with the lord. Thinking what he offered was not tasty enough, he ran to the nearest illam and brought some curd, uppumanga and kaippakka kondattan. Still it remained untouched. The innocent boy closed his eyes and started crying. When he opened his eyes he found the Uruli empty. The joyful boy opened the sreecovil doors and told the warrier to clean the Uruli . The warrier was shocked and asked : Where is the nivedyam ? It is my family's lunch. The boy explained what happened but he thought it was a lie and that the Unninamboothiri had eaten it himself. When the Melshanti was told about the incident he raised his hand to punish the Unni but a voice from the Sreekovil declared; STOP. I ate the nivedyam. Do not punish the boy, he is innocent. Wht a miracle ! It is Bhagavan's leela. Bhagavan is compssionate and loves His devotees. May Guruvayoorappan's holy name be glorified ! jai shree krishna !
