Power of Gayatri Mantra

 

Devotion pours through every page. It is said that when a work is written with a genuine spirit of surrender, it cannot fail to stimulate devotion in the one who reads it. The ‘Maha Brahmana’ is such a work.

 

‘The Glory of Gayatri’ narrates the story of king Koushika and his transformation from being a proud and haughty monarch (rajarishi) to that of a brahmarishi Viswamitra or a mahabrahmana. Unable to secure Nandini, the celestial cow gifted by the gods to sage Vasishta, Koushika was humbled in battle.

 

He becomes an ascetic, performs rigorous austerities, is severely tested and finally emerges victorious. In his final trial, it was the solar form of Savitru that immortalized the sage by gracing him with the vision of celebrated Gayatri mantra is closely associated with Vishwamitra.

 

According to Swami Shivananda; “Of all the mantras, the supreme and most potent power of powers in the great glorious is Gayatri mantra. It is the support of every seeker after Truth who believes in its efficacy, power and glory, be he of any caste, creed, clime or sect. It is only one’s faith and purity of heart that really count.

 

Indeed, Gayatri is an impregnable spiritual armor, a veritable fortress, those guards and protects its votary that transforms him into the divine, and blesses him with the brilliant light of highest spiritual illumination.â€

 

What does the word Gayatri mean? According to Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai, “Gayatri is that which protects the life breath or the senses, beginning with

speech. That which saves those who sing it, reveres it, repeat it, or meditate on it is called Gayatri. Veda Mata will confer all boons on all those who worship Her.â€

 

The Gayatri symbolizes the Divine Mother; the force that sustains all creation.

Dear Jayashree and Sreelekha,

 

Though this topic was discussed long back by me also I give a gist of the same.

 

Gayatri mantra as I said is an adulation of the Cosmic Intelligence.The mantra is divided as

under:

1) OM 2} BHURBHUVASWAHA 3) TATSAWITHURVARENYAM

4) BHARGODEVASYA DIMAHI 5) DHIYOYONAPRACHODHAYAT.

 

So all the steps shuld be said in 5 breaths and of course that will take a few seconds but

the mantra shuld be pronounced in that form as the same has the effect of cleanising the nervous system and when recited properly over a period of time has the effect of raising the

Kundalini Power that lies dormant in oneself.So this mantra is not like a nama japa like

Rama,Krishna,Namasivaya etc. which can be said any time and no restrictions.

 

Gayatri mantra was carved out by 24 Rishis of yore and they got a word each in their deep meditation and the same was clubbed together by Sage Viswamithra in certain metre.The chanting with absolute concentration will make the chanter acquire great intelligence,wisdom,a halo around the face and so many other benefits.Gayatri is the Divine Mother and when pleased will protect the chanter like Her child.The merits of chanting mantra can't be said in so many words but has to be experienced.

 

Normally the same is to be recited before sunrise in Brahma muhurtham when the world is still and initially the same can be said loudly as reciting the same mentally will be difficult for beginners and after a length of time the same can be said silently.The same will generate vibrations and attract the cosmic power into oneself.That is the main reason all knowledeable people euologise the mantra.The mantra contains 24 letters corresponding to the 24 words the Rishis got from the Cosmos.It is time tested mantra and no other mantra is superior to the Gayatri mantra.The saying is 'Gayantham thrayathey Ithi Gayatri' meaning

Gayatri protects one who recites the mantra though the meaning of the mantra is only an adulation of the Deity to enlighten the Intelligence but in actual practice the mantra has great potentialities.People who are chanting the mantra daily can vouchsafe of its glory.

After all everything depends on one's own experience.

 

It is generally believed that the mantra should not be recited during night.There is no bar for women in reciting the same although the same was prohibited in olden days.Only thing they should be clean and be avoided during periods.There is no other bar for reciting the same.Depending on the availability of time the mantra can be recited 12,27,54,108,300,

1008 times.However to begin with small numbers may be adopted as one will get bored due to the time taken in chanting one time.Recital of 1008 in the proper method will take about

2 hrs which in the present days is difficult to do but can be done once in a year and the same will remove all sins and purify the mind and the motor system as the same will be a type of pranic experience.

 

Hope the above is suffice now and when one gets advanced after practicing the same regularly then one can develop interest automatically and can see the effects in moulding the personality.It should be a regular affair and with concentration and doing the same in a clean place so as to get a favourable atmosphere all will help the sadhak to reap great benefits.

 

The recital of Gayatri and Vishnu Sahasranamam everyday will bring immense benefits to the reciter and the pathway to glorification will open.Try and find the effects after some time.I say this from experience and expect others also will get results as experience is the best teacher. Of course there is dhyana sloka and other processes but initially just reciting

the same is ok as other things can be studied later after making progress in the line.

after every day nithyakarma or bathing ,recite the prayer holding your breath for few seconds , then release the carbon dioxide, you inhale recite the prayer then exhale,

actually should be done 108 times a day, sitting in front of your istha devatha lighting a small ghee lamp.

 

Results 15 days time, your mind body wil be purified,She will protct you from all eveils, or misforunes,

 

As you might be aware that the creation I.E PRANAVAM the letter OOM ,is a must ,since the mantra is tribute the five elements of nature , prakrithi, from sound then light then wind etc was formed,

 

With a clear mind and expecting nothing in return and heart filled with gratittude and thank fulness recite , and seeking guidane to make you a pramaathama from jeevaaathma.
