Guest guest
Dear all, When a baby is born, a mother is always eager to introduce everybody to the baby including the baby's father. From day one, mother tells the baby " Father wants to hold you, here is he " . Then when her brother comes she says: " baby, here is your uncle, he is so fond of you " etc. As baby grows, baby will try to say, " dad " , " mama " etc with out knowing anything about the relationship between himself/herself and them. Baby is oblivious of the actual relationship, but he/she is very fond of them. As the baby grows he understands who is dad. who is mama, who is grandfather and grandmother etc. He understands how mother is related to grandmother or mama. Baby had absolute faith in his mother and considered them as dad, mama etc as per her words even before he knew anything more about their relationship. Later knowledge of the relationship made it stronger and complete. Likewise we have to have absolute faith in God and when we evolve slowly with the strong faith, knowledge follows and we understand our relationship to God clearly. When we start loving God as our own, he will reveal His relationship to us. Now let us look at another scenario also. Mere knowledge of scriptures will not help us to advance spiritually. The knowledge has to be applied through saadhana to know God. A doctor gives us medicine for a specific ailment and we know from what he said and by reading the literature that came with the medicine about it's potential to cure the disease and how it should be used. It is good to have the knowledge about the medicine, but unless one takes it as per the advice of the doctor for a few days, the patient will not be cured of his disease. Mere knowledge that it will cure disease will not help him to get better. Same way, knowing what is said in scriptures with out practicing it will not lead us towards God-realization. Where does the practice start? Practice starts by loving God and trying to see Him in everybody and everything around us. And here let us remember what Poonthaanam said: Naamasankeerthanam helps us to acquire and apply spiritual knowledge in our daily life! (based on a Chinmaya Mission discourse on faith) Regards and prayers Savitri
