Ramayana of valmiki and Kamban- Yuddhakanda

1. Rama appreciates Hanuman and embraces him

Rama was overjoyed to hear Hanuman and praised him.

he said that Hanuman had accomplished something which no one could achieve even by thought. Rama said the same thing

which Seetha told to Hanuman. He said that only Garuda, vayu and Hanuman could

cross the ocean.

Rama said,

yo hi bhrithyo

niyuktaH san bharthraa karmaNi dushhkare

kuryaatthadhanuraageNa tamahuH purushhottamam |

A servant who is entrusted with a difficult task by

his master and does it with love he is called the supreme person. Rama said

that the one who does just what he was told or one who could not do it are far

inferior. He also said that the raghu dynasty was saved by Hanuman by finding

out Seetha. Rama felt that he could not properly recompense the good deed in

any manner and said,

esha

sarvasvabhoothasthu parishvango hanoomathaH

mayaa

kaalam imam praapya dhatthaH thasya mahaathmanaH

"Let this be everything to Hanuman and I give him

my embrace which is within my power now."

So saying Rama embraced Hanuman closely. Thus

Hanuman was blessed with the greatest boon a devotee can aspire for, proving

that for a sincere devotee who acts as an instrument of the Lord , He

gives Himself.

Rama then expressed his concern about crossing the

ocean. Sugriva reassured him saying that they would somehow find a way to cross

the ocean and the vanaras are mighty and resourceful and they are prepared to

give their lives for the sake of Rama. He said they would carry Rama and

Lakshmana to Lanka if necessary. Only Rama had to think about a way to build a

bridge over the sea and the rest is easy. Rama agreed that he was competent to

cross the ocean either by building a bridge or through austerity or by drying

it. Then Rama asked Hanuman to describe Lanka in detail. Hanuman explained about

Lanka and the strength of the army of Ravana in detail.

Then on an auspicious day set by Rama they all

started towards the seashore. The vanaras were excited and were declaring that

they would kill Ravana and bring Seetha back. Rama and Lakshmana were carried on their shoulders for

the part of the way and the army reached the seashore.
